Sweet n Savory Cafe

Friday was cool in Wrightsville Beach and we were looking for comfort food and a late lunch. Decided to visit the recently renovated #Sweet&Savory. Greeted with a warm, inviting stroll to the hostess through bins of wine. We followed to a cozy table by the bar past diners sampling Mimosa flights and enjoying a variety of attractive offerings. I am loath to give even one star because our experience was quite frankly awful. Went for a fairly early dinner on Easter Saturday. We were seated promptly but the booth we were allotted was very uncomfortable my feet did no touch the ground and the seat was rather narrow. A foot rest was available but not at all comfortable. We were not particularly happy with the menu but I chose meatloaf and my wife had chicken pot pie. Both choices turned out to be very disappointing, my wife’s Pot pie was poorly presented (in what looked like a soup bowl ) and topped with a very sad looking piece of supposedly puff pastry on top. My wife assured that some chicken was in the dish but I could not see any, and according to her the white sauce was very salty. My Meatloaf was to be fair just about edible but again was poorly presented and the asparagus looked like very thin burnt grass and the mash potatoes were somewhat bland and tasteless. The sauce was far too sweet and of a runny consistency. Both meals would not rate better than one out of ten. We were rather let down by the main course but we decided to indulge in a dessert Sorbet for my wife and cheesecake for myself. The sorbet was frozen solid and barely edible and the cheesecake was quite frankly the absolute worst cheesecake I have ever seen and did not taste much better than it looked, the biscuit part was thicker than the cake mix and both together did measure much more than half an inch. Don’t go there, we certainly will not return under any circumstances. Oh yes it was so overpriced and the overall rating of one out of ten is probably inflated mainly because the staff were at least friendly.

Sweet - I love their sweet! Savory - there savory still lacks flavor. I have eaten here ten times in the span of four years. They have recently changed the menu, updated their business model, and continue to be a local joint worthy of business. However, outside of their fabulous sweets and breakfast selections, I remain disappointed time after time. I have tried the sandwiches, crab cakes, salads, and the like.... I am always sad if only the dinner menu is being served. Too many items done, too different, that remaining OK, is the only option. Highlight what attracts us, your sweets!! Savory highlights to specials and a simple few to make great! Let the rest of the menu go...... oh, last visit, loved the new model and staff service! Best service we ever had there! Awesome.

Staff wonderful, food mediocre

I took a friend to your restaurant because I knew you had some awesome food. You were crowded which is understandable. It took longer than usual to place our order,again understandable due to it being crowded and a Saturday. My favorite is your clam chowder ,which has always been great. However, this time not so much because it came with someone's hair in it. I made several attempts to get the attention of our waiter,but he was too busy having a conversation and a drink with some customers. Finally i took the hair put on my mask and found someone to give the hair to. She said she would make sure i was not charged for my clam chowder. Another wait staff came and brought our bill, which was incorrect, and made excuses why we had such poor service. I was so disappointed because I had raved about the food to my friend, who had never been, and of your great service. It is not your customers fault if you are short staff or have a larger crowd than usual. We are here to support your business during this challenging times.
