Holualoa Japanese Cemetery

While in Kona for our daughter's Oct. 2018 wedding, we drove by and had to stop at this cemetery. Such a loving site with many older and some newer gravestones. A few were knocked down, maybe from weather or human efforts.... who knows? Such a calming site to ponder our history, and to honor our veteran soldiers. I was deeply humbled.....

This cemetery is carved into the lava rock slopes of Holualoa. Despite the fact that the most recent markers appear to be decades old, this cemetery is well-maintained, with fresh flowers to be found on several markers. Time and weather have rendered many of the markers illegible, particularly in the older sections of the cemetery. Nonetheless, the cemetery remains a moving reminder of the Japanese immigrants to this region of the Big Island.
