Inscription:nFairmount Pioneer Cemetery was established in 1876 on land donated by James C. Preston, owner of this San Felipe Hill site and the surrounding property, to serve the communities of Azusa, Glendora, and Covina. Trustees appointed by the Los Angeles County Superior Court administer the Cemetery.nnAs the Eastern San Gabriel Valley grew, the need for a cemetery arose to serve the first permanent residents and homesteaders that made up the pioneering founding families of the region. Many of these pioneering families have members buried here. Fairmount is said to be the first Protestant Cemetery between the San Gabriel River and Lytle Creek. Prior to this site, burials were completed at the San Gabriel Mission or Savannah Cemetery in El Monte.nnThe earliest burials at Fairmount included many Civil War Veterans, who comprised many of the earliest pioneers to the region. Fairmount also is known to include Veterans from World War I & II, Korea, and other conflicts. An observance honoring these pioneers and all fallen military heroes of the region has been held here each Memorial Day since 1876.

Awesome piece of local history right in our own backyard. Well kept secret for years whist is good keeps ass holes from vandalizing the place. Can spend hours in here reading the grave stones and admiring the scenery. Recently a large fence was placed around which is a good thing keeps all the Riff Raff out

I grew up less than a quarter mile from the cemetary on milton dr and spent many hours walking among the head stones and reading the dates on them and as kids it seemed so long ago ,and remember even children's graves ,this was in the early 60s and dont every remember seeing any grave robbing or vandalism, just an old man that would visit the cemetery, and tell us to watch out for rattlers.

Suburbia has reached the gates of this beautiful little Pioneer Cemetery. it's a shame because it has been forgotten and will now be completely forgotten I'm afraid. The gates are locked no one around to let you in. I would have loved to gone in and cut weeds and help to maintain this little place such a shame , beautiful trees weeds all around though but the birds are happy and the memories are still there

Would love to go in to take flowers... Dang it it's never unlocked. History being wasted , they should open it more often.
