They put the cheap mattresses on the floor so they are hard and the more expensive ones are on one then two then three box springs or extra mattresses so you get the illusion that the bed is more comfortable. Get it home and it’s hard as a rock. That’s why they’ll be here for a month or two then gone.
I've bought several mattresses over the years, I've paid tousands for 1 set, all under pressure. My expirence with mattresses by appt, was by far the best experience, I will buy from them again for sure.
