Science and beauty in one awesome stop. It's a little out of the way but we'll worth the trip. The drive is beautiful. Once you arrive you'll find an awesome little museum and gift shop--all for only $5 per vehicle! The staff is super friendly and helpful. The scientists are eager to share their knowledge too. Then to top it off you have a great view of the basin below. Make the trip! You'll be glad you did.

Try to get there on a sunny day! It's a solar observatory after all.nTake your time, walk around and see as much as you can. Staff are very helpful and friendly.nDon't forget to go inside the telescope and get a close up view of the sun!

Great place. Much to learn. Easy walk all the places you would want to see. Knowledgeable staff. Nice visitor center.

Lovely weather -- on a day which is hot down in the lowlands, it's beautiful and cool up here, surrounded by trees and mist sometimes, and there are interpretive signs and paved trails and lookout points and a museum and a gift shop. It's too bad that the National Science Foundation has shut down most of the operations here, but New Mexico State University is still running the large solar telescope. And the gift shop has these awesome UFO t-shirts that look a little bit like the New Mexico state symbol and a little bit like the solar telescope symbol and are just great! The museum not only tells you the history of the site but also tells you and shows you some of the science behind what is being done there. So I'd say it's a pretty cool visit for kids and families.

It was great to visit this place. If you are in school then you can have a detailed tour. The view of Tularosa basin and White sands is splendid from this place. The road yo this place is one of the scenic drives in New Mexico.
