I booked my move through Cross Country but didn't realize they were a broker. I was skeptical when I learned Always Affordable were the actually movers and I saw the reviews. To my surprise, my experience was good. They were professional, quick and efficient and delivered my belongings to me in a timely manner without a scratch or ding.
Moved from NY to CA.nCompletely shattered huge expensive items. Do not use this company. I booked with Home Safe Transit and they passed on my items to Always Affordable. Both companies are thieves - 4 months later still waiting on insurance to resolve some of the issues. Really upsetting. Especially does not take COVID into consideration. They made me pay extra for packaging and order slips. My items were delivered some out of packaging and slips I bought - including an expensive mattress - SO GROSS.
In July of this year, Always Affordable was contracted by Colonial Van Lines to deliver our belongings from New York City to Salt Lake City. We had absolutely no choice in the matter, and we strongly urge any individuals or companies seeking to work with Always Affordable to reconsider.nnAlways Affordable was stubborn, indignant, condescending, and incompetent at every point in our moving process.nnWe were initially given a delivery date between five days and two weeks after the initial pickup. For two and a half weeks, it was absolute radio silence because they refused to communicate with Colonial Van Lines. We had daily calls with our Colonial Van Lines account manager where she would tell us Always Affordable wouldn’t give her any information. At one point we were told our belongings were in Texas, but all further communication proved that was an outright lie. Calling Always Affordable ourselves produced deflection back onto Colonial Van Lines and claims that there was no one with any authority to speak to us.nnWe didn’t hear a verifiable thing until, horrifically, we found out all of our possessions were still in New Jersey after three entire weeks. They still had not even loaded anything onto the truck that would be driving across the country. On top of this, they would not tell us when that truck would actually be leaving the distribution center. My attempts to ask the dispatcher when we could anticipate our delivery weren’t met with answers, but rather, the incredibly condescending assertion that I “needed to calm down” for asking for information we desperately needed. The dispatcher proceeded to blame Colonial Van Lines for giving such a generous delivery window, again, without giving any information about when we could expect the delivery. Of course, we are upset with Colonial Van Lines for setting us up with them in the first place, but we were shocked by the absolute lack of accountability or responsibility on their end.nnAgain, please, please do yourself a favor and choose a different moving company - and make sure that the movers you do hire don’t contract out to Always Affordable. And if you’re a moving company considering hiring Always Affordable, please consider the experience of your customers - we certainly wish Colonial Van Lines had.
I used a broker (Cross Country Moving -- avoid this company at all costs) to organize my move from Brooklyn NY to South Florida. The job was given to Always Affordable Moving. On the plus side, the crews that came to do the packing, loading, and unloading were polite, everything we shipped arrived in tact, and in a reasonable time frame (~8 days). That said, DO NOT USE CROSS COUNTRY MOVERS OR ALWAYS AFFORDABLE MOVING!!nnThey sent 3 people to me at 11am to pack and load the contents of a 3500 sq ft house. After several hours of slow progress, they finally realized they weren't going to get the job done and had to call 2 more people in. It took them until 1am just to finish packing and moving boxes out of the house. My things weren't even on the truck when I had to leave for the airport!nnThe worst part of the CROSS COUNTRY MOVERS / ALWAYS AFFORDABLE SCAM is that the price of my move ended up being way higher than the estimate I was given. Immediately upon arriving at my house, the foreman told me the cost would be almost double. When I called the broker to complain, Boris -- the owner of Always Affordable -- told the broker he would cap the cost of packing, packing materials, and unpacking. Still not great, but better than nothing. On the basis of this commitment, I agreed to go forward with the job. What choice did I have at this point? They had me against a wall.nnWhen the crew finished at 1am, the foreman told me they never agreed to the capped price and that I had to sign off the new estimate or they'd leave my stuff on the street. Very nice.nnWhen I called Cross Country Moving the next day to raise the issue, Annie told me she had Boris on a recorded line the day before agreeing to the cap. But, after having to call Annie every day for several days in a row (because she never once picked up the phone to call me), she told me she'd given up and there was nothing she could do.nnI've moved cross-border, from state to state, and locally, all told more than 20 times. This was without exaggeration the absolute worst service I've ever experienced. STAY AWAY FROM ALWAYS AFFORDABLE MOVING AND CROSS COUNTRY MOVERS.
Awful experience. Both on delivery and pick up the movers tried to negotiate terms outside of or not clearly defined in the contract. On pickup, they dropped my trunk. They also did not wear face masks in the middle of the pandemic. At delivery the movers refused to move in my belongings until I venmoed his personal account for an extra stair fee that was not clearly stated in the contract. They also broke my exercise bike. My belongings were in transit for over a month. I highly discourage anyone ever using this company.
