The haunted house was fun, the hay ride was very informative, if you have time, go out and volunteer work there they are trying to restore the old hotel
We were just driving through and stopped when we saw this massive abandoned hotel. Some friendly locals told us it is a public park and that we were free to explore and look around. They work on it and keep it up, so it is totally safe and very cool for taking photos. There is an abandoned thermal spring with some great history as well.
Absolutely amazing location! The history is so far back that it is impossible to take in completely!
I read on a blog about this place being an absolute gem. While staying in the area, my wife and I decided to take the 20 minute drive and checkout the facility. We entered at the sign that was marked “SS Resort Parking.” There was a small group of people who we met who were waiting on permission from the owner to tour the grounds. After entering the property we met the owner, Mr. Berkley, who showed us around the property and provided great detail of the history. They are in the process of restoring the property which was originally a resort, turned to a tuberculosis hospital, and eventually a senior living facility. A great find for anyone who enjoys history and architecture.
If your in the area stop by, their are very nice people there working hard to bring this place back to life that can tell you and show you about the place. It's beautiful and deserves to be an amazing destination for people to enjoy for another 200 years.
