Lookout Pass Ski & Recreation Area

Looks like they were getting ready for snow.

Not the biggest mountain in the area, but they are expanding. It's a great place to get kids started on skiing and snowboarding and get your regular fix on a budget.nnThe instructors are great but the group lessons get crowded which can mean less one on one time with your kid. They need to hire more snowboarding instructors especially. You shouldn't have to book two weeks ahead to get a lesson, but that's how it was a lot this season.nnLookout is also a great mountain to ride at on a powder day if you can get runs in before it's tracked out. They get more snow than anyone else around. If you can ride on weekdays, you'll get tons of powder in a season.nnThe new quad lift on the front side helps with crowds, and the expansion will help even more, but they have been especially crowded on the weekends. With the free ski school in January, I don't even bother going up on Saturdays until late in the season.nnFood is just ok. Good prices but nothing to write home about. If you want restaurant grade food, full amenities, and high speed lifts to keep the lines short, go to Schweitzer. If you want affordable, family fun, Lookout is for you.
