Out by the fairgrounds and post office, five miles or so east of Gallup, you come to Red Rock Park and its two dusty and rocky trails. One leads to Pyramid Rock (challenging). The other to Church Rock (not as much). The name of each destination pretty much tells you what the rocky formations look like. Both leave you gaping in wonder at the monumental stone edifices.

Outstanding park, absolutely beautiful landscape. Met a Navajo gentleman by the name Gilbert, great conversation and fast became friends.

Awesome even though they're only supposed to be open to essential workers right now.

This place looks pretty sweet and definitely worthy of some little day hikes. I would have fun camping here.

I saw the park from the interstate heading for Arizona and immediately turned off to go see this BEAUTIFUL park. I looked it up online and it said it was dog-friendly so I was all for it. Packed a hiking bag with food and water for me and the pup and got to walking. Unfortunately, my dog got barely 50 yards from the car before he started to limp. I checked his paws and they were FILLED with thorns. There was no way around them. They were everywhere. So, I had to pick my 45 pound dog up and walk him back to the car. I know there is no controlling this, but at least some signs about it would be nice. Not a pup-friendly place! Below is a picture of MY shoe from our short 2 minute walk.
