Best church in the area with the best priests in Charles County. Restored my faith in what it truly means to be Catholic and Christian by following the teachings of Jesus (love, peace and forgiveness). Without this church I would be lost. Thank you. Not to mention the beauty on the outside as well as in!

As the oldest continuous Catholic parish in the US, St. Ignatius holds a unique place in American history. Though it's current location was not the original, the church and cemetery boast many items of historical note, not the least of which is the grave of a famous Confederate spy and her family. However, the best part of this place is by far the view it commands of the river, particularly at sunset.nI happened to meet the pastor while I was there watching the sunset and he generously gave us the history of the place as well as a tour of the interior.

I used to pass by this church often and was always impressed with the location and view from the hill. I did not know the history of the church. I took a friend from Australia to a restaurant off Pope's Creek road and being Catholic, she wanted to go inside the church and look around. There was a sign saying there was a mass at 6 p.m. My friend asked if she could go to the mass, so I took her there at 6. Everyone was very friendly and made her feel at home. It was the highlight of her visit. I personally am just impressed every time I pass this church. The beauty of the church and the view looking down through the graveyard to the water is spectacular.

During sunset you are drawn to some of the most powerful images of the church and tombstones overlooking the Potomac River.
