When I walked through the doors of the spa, I expected to be welcomed with relaxing music and heavenly smells of essential oils. The building was cold. The owner was neither warm or welcoming, she did not introduce herself and her mask was hanging down below her nose. She handed me a clipboard and asked me to have a seat....so I did. A few minutes later a door opened and the massage therapist stepped out of the room. Moments later her client came out, and they completed the transaction and he left the building. She made eye contact with me, but did not say “hello”...or “I will be right with you”. She went back into her room to clean it, and she came out with her arms full of laundry. As she walked past me she said, “I get so sick of cleaning all the time.” Wow. Did she just really say that???? She returned to her room, finished turning it over and came out to get me. She did not introduce herself, she took my clipboard and asked me, “What are your problem areas?” I answered, “shoulders, neck and lower back.” She said, “You and everyone else.” She then decided to tell me how she is tired of wearing masks and tired of Covid...having no idea that she is complaining to a nurse. Furthermore, I am there to relax, not to listen to my massage therapist complain. The massage was fine and I left a 20% tip....but that was not a spa. There was a layer of dust on everything. The desk where I checked in and out was a mess. Needless to say I will not be returning.
Preface – This was my first facial in VA so perhaps they do things differently here. However I’ve had multiple facials in multiple cities and states and never have I had such a horrible facial.nPro – Estheticians was friendly and kept me informed of all products she was doing in real-time.nI find many people have unreasonable expectations of service so here were my expectations going into the “spa” for my 90-minute facial - judge my reasonableness for yourself. 1. Be on the table for 90 minutes 2. Relax/comfortable, 3. Have a scalp massage, 4. Have multiple products applied with various methods (brush/fingers/sponges) 5. While waiting for products to set get a hand/foot massage and/or hot gloves, 6. Warmth, 7. Lip balm/treatment and 8. Extraction.nUpon my arrival she notified me that the 90 minutes advertised includes check-in and -out times but actual facial would be closer to 70 minutes (which was in my favor as I had a schedule conflict and was going to request shorter time) I had paperwork completed, 2 bathroom breaks and actual facial, and I was out within 60 minutes. When I was shown to the room the first thing that was said to me was “oh this pillow is here because there is a dip in the table”. (Red flag #1 – I overlooked this as it is COVID and small businesses are struggling so let me be empathetic but seriously who wants to lay on a table with a dip/pillow under them for 70 minutes?) All the products applied to my face started at 34 degrees which caused me to tense every time – this was literally the only facial I’ve ever experienced where I was dreading the next step and was hoping the next would be the last. Only one product application was used with a brush (lasted 30 seconds). The water she used to initially clean my face wasn’t even lukewarm and the first towel she applied to my face she said “ok here comes the warm towel – well kind of” yes this ‘kind of’ was just a wet towel with one tiny warm spot (maybe the size of a half-dollar). For the next 50 minutes I kept telling myself “you only spent $40 on this you can’t expect perfection”. I had to put my hands under my body as the room and table were freezing and there was no heated blanket really the only heat was from the steamer – had I known I was just going to lay there for 3-6 minutes while waiting for the product to set I would have worn my sweatshirt and coat and brought my laptop to work while laying there. Zero extractions were made, no lights were used however the steamer was utilized. Had I remembered I actually paid $71 for this treatment I would have called Groupon from the spa to demand a refund. I love Aveda products and all my Aveda facials have been spectacular this is NOT an Aveda standard facial (I do believe these were their products). Of my 8 expectations – only one was met – Scalp massage (which was amazing). I see on their website now the lip service is a $3 upcharge so this clearly is NOT included in the facial and would be unreasonable for me to include as an expectation. This was the worst facial I have ever experienced in the last 15 years.
Excellent service. I got a bikini wax and the staff was very patient and kind. I will definitely be coming back! Totally recommend to anyone who’s interested in getting waxed.
Great hair cut!
I had such a great time today getting my hair done. I haven't had a hair cut for a really long time and my stylist, Savannah, gave great recommendations to help restore the natural beauty of my hair. She was very bubbly, and skilled at what she did. I decided that I was going to get bangs, and she did amazing. Highly recommend!! :D
