A peaceful place to spend eternity. Stop in to say your respects to Uncle Sam.

We walk in the cemetery virtually every day while staying at our home nearby. The landscape, historical monuments and scenery are unparalleled in Upstate New York. Do yourself a favor, plan a visit and it’s a certainty that you’ll return!

Oakwood Cemetery was organized in 1848 and is comprised of about 300 acres. It was created as a park-like setting north and east of the City of Troy and the Village of Lansingburg. Oakwood Cemetery is non-sectarian and non-profit and includes a panoramic view of the Hudson River Valley with trails, ponds, and waterfalls. It includes a National Historic landmark Oakwood is one of America’s largest rural cemeteries, commanding a spectacular panoramic view of the Hudson Valley. Oakwood is the final resting place of many of the area’s most prominent citizens, including “Uncle Sam” Wilson, progenitor of the famous Uncle Sam icon. The Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematorium, mausoleums, burial vaults, an Urn Garden and both upright and flat bronze memorials. Hundreds of burials were also re-interred from old Troy Cemetery on Mount Ida and the old burial ground on Third Street.nSince 1890, Oakwood Cemetery has been providing New York’s Capital District with compassionate, professional cremation services in our Gardner Earl Memorial Chapel and Crematory. This crematory was the 13th built in the United States, the fifth in the state of New York and the first in the Capital District. Today, we perform more than 450 cremations annually.

Beautiful grounds. Take one of their tours. Many historic monuments. In the days before income taxes, the Titans of Troy's industries spared little expense on their memorials.
