Tucked behind the Three Chimneys Inn on School House lane is this tiny cemetery. Established shortly after the town purchased the plot from the Woodman family in 1795, it contains approximately 200 graves. Among them is Jacob Odel, an architect who assisted George ffrost in rebuilding interior of the property, seen here above on the hill, after he acquired the home from the Woodmans in the 1800s. The oldest home in Durham, it's said to be one of the most haunted. According to legend, the inn is haunted by the ghost of Hannah, the daughter of valentine Hill, who built the first homestead here in 1649. She tragically lost her life in a drowning accident in the nearby Oyster River. It seems she's never truly left.. Guests and staff alike have reported strange happenings in the inn, from moving furniture, to missing silverware.
