Nice older cemetery on a quiet dirt road. Hide gem.

Tucked away at the corner of Gyde and Ridge — both scenic dirt roads — Kinyon Cemetery is a rare gem in someplace like Wayne County! Heavily wooded and lovingly maintained. Many very old graves and headstones, and many familiar local names.

I take my kids here every year at night time around Halloween to spook them after telling ghost stories. Its perfect. Secluded, dark, old. They love it!

One of the earliest settlers in Canton Township was Elisha Kinyon; he and his wife Dilla first bought land in the area in 1831.Elisha's son Orrin bought 120 acres (49 ha) from his father in 1834, and in 1835 he married Roxanne Fairman. The couple had eight children between 1836 and 1856, all sons, and built this house in 1850. Only three of the couple's sons survived to adulthood; family tradition recounts that in 1849, Roxanne Kinyon accidentally poisoned two of her sons, and every day thereafter visited their graves for the rest of her life.

This is an interesting old cemetary located at the corner of Gyde Rd and Ridge Rd in Canton. It's unfortunate that so many headstones are damaged. The cemetary literally tells the story of this area of Canton. You see names such as McClumpha, Hanford and Gyde. This is truly an historic cemetary. One headstone lists a birthdate of 1797, only 14 years after the end of the American Revolution. Remarkable.
