I did not have a good experience with Life Custom Cabinets. We were building our first home and we wanted to use custom cabinets and decided to use them bc of the good reviews. Little did I know that at least one of the reviews was a family member. I came up with a design and gave it to David Life. I gave them a deposit and they came and measured after framing was finished. Flash forward 6 months. We are ready to install the cabinets, the granite guy is waiting and they are not ready. They held us up on 3 different occasions while we were paying $40 a day interest on our construction loan. When I expressed my dismay to David about putting us behind, he basically said there was nothing he could do bc his guys are on a job in bowling green and he didn’t have anybody and to me seemed unconcerned. Another instance where they were putting me behind he emailed me saying “this too shall pass”. I couldn’t figure out if he was trying to be funny or what. Keep in mind that this was 6 months after a deposit and they measured. I also hired them to build a bathroom vanity. Once again they measured, I gave them a design, and they gave me a price. They were going to do the vanity top for $400. So, about 2 weeks before they are set to install them, he tells me that the vanity top is going to be $1,300 bc of the odd size. I actually caught it in an email invoice, so if I had not caught it I would not have known until after it was installed. He knew the size 6 months before and gave me $400 price. Then at the last minute he said it will be $1,300. I said no thanks and went to a local granite shop for my top. Since I had to get a different top, the vanity color had to be changed which caused a whole other can of worms. A list of issuers: did not put trim in the island like I ask and said that I didn’t ask even though I have the email proving otherwise, did not put the trash can where I ask, I wanted a small radius at the bottom of my farmhouse sink and you would have thought I was asking for the moon bc they couldn’t figure out how to do it (they actually were not going to do it but I insisted), had a sub zero built in refrigerator which they did not get the opening correct and left a large gap at the top, used filler in the corner instead of making my cabinet door bigger for more space, poor design on my wall cabinets (they look like two big boxes and look cheap when he could have easily put in split doors to make them look nice but think he wanted to save the money and we have been talking to other cabinet makers to pay to get this corrected), and the big kicker...tried to charge me $2,000 over the agreed price! If I hadn’t caught it they would have been $2,000 richer. He said it was an “oversight”. It was in their favor of course. I’m not saying they’re dishonest, just simply stating what happened. I held back $250 to cover what their tardiness cost me in interest and some of the things they messed up on. That is when the wife, who helps run the business sent me a nasty meat and called me a “nagger” and that they were not going to warranty their cabinets which I paid $10,000. Not a good experience and definitely not a “custom” cabinet maker. I would have been better off going to Home Depot.nThey did a good job on the paint and stain but in my opinion definitely overpriced for what you get and they absolutely cannot keep to a schedule.
