Just south of Sarah Ann, West Virginia, one may find the Hatfield Family Cemetery. It is a short hike up an old road impassible to cars. Quiet, peaceful air about the place. While certainly not the bloodiest feud, it is the most well known in US culture. Take as much or little time as you like. It is not uncommon to have no cell service in these mountains. True GPS works fine. Be prepared. In warmer weather, beware of snakes.

Tough walk up to the graveyard but well worth it

out in the middle of nowhere. Don't let that discourage you you need to go. Very cool walk up to the graveyard. especially if you have family that's related to the hatfields like we do it means a lot. Don't miss out on this once in a lifetime opportunity to see a true legend in this great state of West Virginia. Wild and wonderful West Virginia. We also stayed at Chief Logan State Park in Logan West Virginia. Great place to stay.

Historic persons buried here in a family cemetery highlighted by the central monument.

My husband, 4 year old daughter and myself visited the cemetery yesterday. It was a peaceful sunny day and yes it is a bit of a hike but when you get to the top and see Devil Anse’s monument it is just mind blowing. It’s really a very interesting part of history and just leaves you wanting to know more. We even went to KY to see the Hog Trial Cabin, and a few others.nnAdvice: Wear tennis shoes, don’t go on a day where it is supposed to rain or has rained because it could be very slick. It is definitely a hike up the hill so for those who have any physical disabilities it may be hard to get up there but just take your time and watch out for snakes as there is a lot of overgrown weeds and so many grave sites that you couldn’t get to or see because of it.
