Our daughter (now 14)has been taking lessons from Sigrun for 10 years. A couple of years ago there was a distinct shift in her motivation – she often refused to practice, had no motivation, and often would state “I just can’t do it…it doesn’t work.” She was certainly no longer enjoying herself.nnSigrun began to work with her on the mechanics of her position – from sitting at the piano at the appropriate height, to shifts in hand and finger position while playing. It certainly took a while before she saw a connection between these details and the ease with which she could play, and of course she had to “un-learn” old habits. Yet Sigrun’s skill and patience has truly paid off. Awareness that these seemingly small changes can make a huge difference was the first step, then patience as she developed new habits.nnToday, she enjoys playing again! She sees steady progress as she works through new pieces and that alone motivates her. We are so grateful for Sigrun’s ability to identify the issues, her network of resources she has at her disposal (e.g. virtual lessons with other teachers), her deep commitment to continually learning as a teacher, and her empathetic patience. Sigrun is a really skilled and thoughtful piano teacher. She mixes in games and music theory, keeping kids engaged and looking forward to lessons.
