Lou's Restaurant & Bakery

Not sure if I just have bad luck here but I’ve given it several tries...nnFirst time I went here for a business meeting and it was raining and I stood in line outside... in the rain... for 45+ minutes on a day that wasn’t busy. I am very patient and didn’t mind the wait. What bothered me was that no one approached me to acknowledge me. They would just look at me, making eye contact, and would walk away. I followed the directions that they have on a board outside the restaurant regarding how to get a table and properly wait in line. They had “X’s” drawn on the pavement. I finally went inside to inform the staff that no one was offering me a table while I was one of two parties waiting in line and they seemed very surprised and immediately got my coworker and I a table. The food was alright, my muffin was very dry everything else was okay, not bad but not fantastic.nnMy second time here I decided to order their fried chicken sandwich to-go, which may have been great if it wasn’t burnt to a crisp... some parts of the sandwich were literally black and so hard I nearly cracked a tooth. I was a bit surprised as fried chicken is quite simple to make. They didn’t have any customers dining at the restaurant so I was a bit surprised to see how lazy they were being with my order. I also decided to order a glazed twisted donut and it was literally just a plain donut with nothing on it. I’ve had their donuts before and this one was unlike any other... plain and distasteful. I was once again very disappointed. I’ve heard great things about this restaurant, but unfortunately I haven’t experienced this greatness for myself. A bit overpriced for the lackluster meal and small portions you will receive. There’s much better places to eat in the area if you ask me. It takes a lot for me to complain, as I am not a picky eater but I felt very compelled to write a review for Lou’s. Not sure if I’ve just happened to go to Lou’s on a day with the wrong staff or if they’re really just lackluster.

The menu is always full of delicious choices. Many local ingredients. They have gluten free bread for sandwiches/toast. Great desserts. One of my all time favorite spots.

We were visiting from VT, and decided to have a taste of one of New Hampshire best foods. Top of the list was cider doughnuts when I reasearched on google and when the best place to get a cider doughnuts? Lou’s appeared in the top 3 places. Went to Lou’s, it is a quaint place and at the main entrance, I could count 4 people standing in front of cashier, I went in to get in line and was told to wait outside due to social distancing only 2 people can be inside at the same time. I get social distancing if applied to everybody. So I did comply, went outside until main entrance cleared. When I asked for the cider doughnut “we don’t have any”, ok. Then asked for scones “we don’t have anymore today” but clearly on the menu. Ok, then finally just got a glazed doughnut I could have had from Dunkin’ donut. Simply disappointed. Will not return. Ever.

A small cozy place. We both had the corned beef hash. Im not sure why it's world famous. It was good but definitely not world famous. The service was top notch. They had gluten free options, a huge bonus. I'd visit here again.

Excellent food. Great service. So many choices! Look at the menu before you go. Definitely will return on all trips to Dartmouth! Just remember if you go at a” normal” eating time, there WILL be a wait.
