Great quality general store. Check out their pastry!
Masks are not required. The maskless loitering by the cashier talking with her. When asked about why no masks, the cashier whined that she can’t make them. But she sure can hang out with them. Such a shame too. They have great baked goods that we would make the trip for, but between not caring about their patrons and then walking out of the store to be confronted by a dead bear hanging out of the back of a truck right in front of the door, well, we will give this place a wide berth from now on.
Walked in this morning, and the clerk was not wearing a mask. A local man was situated next to the exit discussing the newspaper with the clerk, also without a mask on, and it was physically impossible to exit the store without coming with 2' of him, violating every principle rule of social distancing. *Update* The owner assures me that upon reviewing the security cameras, I was mistaken, and informs me that his clerk(s) always wear masks, except when locals are in the store who are comfortable without one, which, unless there are antibodies in the water in Newbury, is precisely how people get sick.
Always great service! The sandwiches are AMAZING! There's always some incredible new thing to try in the dessert case! Now they have the pizza oven and the ice cream shop and kayak rentals; what more can you ask for? I love Newbury General Store where it feels like family every time I visit.
Excellent food, friendly staff, decent beer selection and awesome ice cream!
