Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion

Great wines!

Beautiful property; easily accessed from the town centre by tram. We were welcomed warmly by a lady who speaks great English, and who has an encyclopaedic knowledge of the Chateau. She showed us the vines, talked about the history of the chateau, and took us around the modern, Stark designed, wine making facility. After answering all our many questions she gave us some of the end product to taste. The cost - €20. Each. Our hotel offers vineyard tours for €185 euros per person. You do the maths.

We went here for my fiancé’s birthday this year for a tour and wine tasting and it was just incredible. Firstly I arrived slightly late, called to apologise and they were fine with our delay. We had a private tour of the vineyard and chateau with a brilliant bilingual host who was attentive, answered our questions and wasn’t pretentious either which was wonderful. The wine, or course, was exquisite and was so nice to learn about it. It was two hours and we weren’t bored for a second. Well worth the visit!
