Château Canon

Château Canon ( named after Jacques Kanon who originally purchased the estate in 1790 ; then it was purchased by famous fashion brand Chanel - the Wertheimer family from 1996 ) , originally Clos St-Martin, is a Bordeaux wine , from the Saint-Émilion appellation, ranked among the 1er Premiers grands crus classés B in the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine ( 1996 ) . The vineyard ( managed from 1996 by John Kolasa who also oversaw the Chanel groups then by Nicolas Audebert in 2014 ) has an area around 32 hectares ( 79 acres ; with 13 hectares lie within the original clos) , planted grape varieties of 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. 24 hectares of the 32 are classified as First Growth terroir of asteriated limestone plateau with clay veins . The annually production is on average 7,500 cases of the Grand vin Chateau Canon and the second label wine Croix Canon ( before 2012 , named Clos de Canon) The underground limestone quarries tunnels and caves of Chateau Canon are one of the best sites available for wine lovers in the St. Emilion area to visit and explore !
