St Joseph Regional Medical Center Hospital

Sadly, I have lost all respect for this hospital. As a Notre Dame employee, I have tried to support St. Joseph Hospital as it is one of our partners. However, I am concerned with the way they treat people of color. I will no longer utilize their services. I tried to reach out to the hospital to speak with someone and was completely ignored. I will encourage all of our family and friends in the area to utilize Memorial when possible.

One of my best friends was seen here today in the ER. Dr. David Dunnington never saw her and never even put his hands on her to evaluate her. She was told imaging couldn't be done because there was a code blue. I understand that someone was in arrest, but it doesn't take the entire ER staff to save one patient. She has been throwing up yellow bile with right sided upper abdominal pain. That is malpractice at its finest. I am sure this isn't the first time it has been done to someone. It's only a matter of time before it catches up.

Took daughter to ER just now. Had horrible experience with nurse named Dawn. She was rude to both of us. My daughter has mental health issues and alcoholism. She seemed to deliberately antagonize my daughter and tried with me. She managed to scare my daughter so bad she just wanted to leave. Except nurse refused to let her leave and is having her arrested for trying to run out. It's as if she took an instant dislike to us both. She needs a job with no interaction.

Good hospital, but the staff needs to keep family informed after patient goes through triage, They said they would contact me about my brother's condition, but was not contacted, I waited 6 hours at home, wondering if he was going to be admitted or not, I had to call twice, then by 7 hours I called the hospital customer service and asked if he was still waiting n ER or going to be admitted, Why bother giving them my home phone, if they don't call and keep family updated, I guess you just have to hope to get the right person, It's been 10 hours know and I still don't know what is going on,nIt's a good hospital but need better contact with family upon admittance.nDonna - South Bend

Poor communication, arrogant docs who couldn’t tolerate pushback on their methods. Great nursing staff who unfortunately have a better handle on patient care than the docs. We transferred my fiancé to Grand Rapids where he’s doing much better and being treated by a level 4 epilepsy center.
