Monmouth Medical Center, Southern Campus- Emergency Room

Really NOT a good hospital to be in for Psychiatric reasons because all the crisis intervention unit in this hospital ever wants to do is refer you to a nasty terrible psychiatric hospital called the Barnabas Health Behavioral Health Center in Toms River also because this hospital seriously really doesn't help or support people who have mental disabilities like me also because this hospital seriously really doesn't want to get you help when you need help at all! Please avoid this hospital and find another better hospital around the area to be in!

When my 99 year-old father fell for the first time, I had him taken here as his primary doctor is in the Geriatric Institute here. My father is totally incontinent and when he wet his gown and pants they readily responded and got him and the bed changed but left him totally uncovered. When no one came back, I ended up putting his blankets back on. At one point, he thought he needed to defecate so I told someone nearby and they said they would get someone to bring a bedpan. After 5 minutes, I told someone else and they said they would get someone. Waiting another 15 minutes, I had to exclaim loudly to the main desk to finally get a response. Poor communications and too much time spent waiting. My father was checked in overnight for observation and they had no incontinence supplies. As they couldn't put a Texas catheter on him, he was left with nothing on although I gave them a pair of Depends. And so he awoke in the night with bed and robe soaked. I then put the Depends on him myself and kept him changed. During the night, they wanted to take another blood sample for blood typing. I asked didn't they do that in the ER and they said it was to double check in case he needed blood. I said no blood would be needed as they wouldn't t do any surgery on someone his age anyway and refused it as they were just padding the bill. They also put on these special booties to prevent bed sores but he was only staying one night. Sadly, I didn't catch it in time to refuse and he kicked them off anyway. No wonder our medical costs are astronomical. The patient is not in the loop and hospitals assume insurance with handle everything.

I highly recommend this hospital. I was first here in the emergency department on June 27 on my birthday at 1:30am. Was supposed to be at another hospital that day at 11:00am for a test. But was in a lot of distress and husband called 911. Ambulance took me here. So happy they did. Emergency room doctor did test and CT scan and I was admitted. First thing in the morning Dr Gorechlad meet with me. I knew I was going to need surgery and he was great going over everything. Good and bad. Had the surgery the next morning. Besides his great ability and knowledge, Dr Gorechlad was so compassionate getting me through it all. The staff on the 5th Floor were fantastic. Was in hospital for 11 days. Then rehab facility for 2 weeks. I had to heal and get stronger to have a second surgery that Dr Gorechlad told me he would do. That surgery was done on November 19th. Again Dr Gorechlad was fantastic. So was the nursing staff and aides and cleaning crew and food workers. Was in hospital 1 week. Can not say enough how caring they all are. I highly recommend this hospital and Dr. Gorechlad. Also the rooms are private which helps you get the rest you need to heal faster.

Went for a simple outpatient test, very rude receptionist, waited for hours while everyone nonjewish went first. The facts speak for themselves

Word to the wise - if your family member is in bad shape, do not bring him/her here. This hospital cannot do much except basic medical issues - if it's serious then they will ship them out to RWJ in new brunswick. It would be better to drive up the parkway to Jersey Shore.
