I wish I could leave negative stars, this hospital does not deserve 1 star...I would not put my dog in the care of Select Specialty Hospital-Des Moines. My FIL as been there for nearly 2 months and in that time my MIL has spoken to a doctor 2x despite asking every day to talk to his doctors (hospital currently closed to visitors due to COVID.) Every time she calls a new nurse answers, this place is a revolving door. Our family has had numerous calls with the CEO and we hear a lot of promises but nothing changes. Even the case managers don't respond.nnOver the past week my FIL has been in surgery twice to get an abdominal feeding tube put in. Both times have failed and he has received no nutrition in 6 days, only sugar water. Today the surgeon he told my FIL that he didn't need to worry about eating, he was a big guy, this would burn off his fat. Talk about bedside manner! In the mean time my FIL grows weaker and weaker...

The care and attention I received from the nursing staff was very good. Felt all my needs were well takes care of from the doctors this came around to see me, to the nursing staff that worked with me round the clock during my stay, to the physical therapy people who helped me out and my wound care nurse Nancy that worked with me three times a week. Got me on the right track to healing from some wounds that my previous care givers back home were having trouble getting a handle on. Also the case workers and other patient support staff were great. Best move I could have had in my health road to recovery, would definitely recommend them, or choose them again if the need arises.

My mother’s entire experience here was a complete nightmare. She was admitted here able to stand and walk unassisted and was discharged unable to. She also has significant anxiety and panic attacks that she did not have before this hospital. She was restrained a few times for “confusion” but was left in the restraints for an entire day. I Know these are used to protect the patient but she did not have access to her call light, instead it was on the floor next to her bed. She has a tracheostomy and cannot talk without a speaking valve or her finger. Had she needed something or had trouble breathing the nurses would not have known. Half the time you couldn’t get a nurse to tell you any information other than she is fine. I was even asked on 2 separate occasions not to call because it was taking time away from other patients. My mom is not the same woman that entered that hospital.

The entire staff has been very courteous and caring during my stay. Call light response has been excellent. The nights are quiet and nurses do their best to let me rest well. Everything was explained very well. I recommend highly.

Wonderful clinical staff that have done so much to help improve my health. Staff deliver great care and have done a good job communicating with me during my stay. I appreciate everything that the staff at Select Hospital have done for me.
