Every time I eat at The Rusty Melon I try something new and have not ever been unhappy. Great food. It is named after the owner Rusty and the melon part according to staff is a joke based on body shape. As I big guy, I proudly say round is a shape and never trust a skinny cook! He does the smoking in house and it is awesome. Great atmosphere....not fancy but welcoming. It is one of our go-to spots in Erie! See you at the melon soon.

I will start by saying that the food was very delicious. I got the buffalo chicken mac & cheese, which was excellent and had great flavor. My wife got the wings, which were smoked, and also great. What makes me knock the review down some stars is the service. The place is seat yourself, which is fine except it was over 10 minutes before anyone knew we were there because wait staff wasn't going around regularly. Then, when someone finally came by, they removed their mask to speak to us and take our drink order, which is extremely rude and unsafe. They provided us with menus, which were paper, which cannot be sanitized, and were dirty, so they were not new and thus also unsafe. Later on when our server came back to check on us, their mask was nearly down to their chin and not covering their nose and half their mouth. When our server came into our area another time to announce something, they removed their mask once again.nnIn short, get takeout. The food is good but it is a dangerous place to go to in a time like this.

The food was great and enjoyed by my family. Received great service even with the computer system going down and our online order being lost. Ownership quickly took charge after learning of my order being lost, retook my order, and expedited the remaking of my entire order. Owners offered complimentary beverages while I waited on my order. This is a business that responds quickly to problems and desires to make it right. I would recommend the Rusty Melon to anyone. My family and I will be returning to enjoy the food and service again.

Listen to the reviews! The food is good, but the service is very poor. I'm reaaally happy the food was good, because this experience would have been worse.nnIt seems like your reviewers are telling you loud and clear what your next steps should be! Food is good = keep doing your thing, good job! Service is poor (as I read in many other recent reviews) = time to invest in extra training or extra staffing during busy times. Making sure all employees have clear expectations on what to do or say when the kitchen is backed up on a busy night. As a person who has worked service industry jobs my entire life, the difference walking out of a well staffed shift, and a badly staffed shift is immense for employees and customers.nnWe all choose how we spend our money and to me, customer service is a large part of the equation but it might not be to you, if so, you'll have a fine experience! This however was my first and likely last time there until I hear of major moves on the customer service front.

The Rusty Melon has been one of our go-to places in Erie. We usually come here every month or two. The wings are tasty, albeit a little small, and the fries are head and shoulders above other local places. We love the Philly and the chicken parm sandwiches, and the salads at the Rusty Melon are always crisp and fresh. I skip on the nachos because I feel they are better done other places, and the burgers are nearly always cooked well done, losing their flavor and juiciness. I do not like a dry burger.nnWe were in yesterday on Halloween and had great food as usual. There were no mask issues from staff or patron, and the restaurant was in a good mood and atmosphere. However, our waitress was nearly absent which left our table with much more to be desired and ultimately spoiled our experience.nnWe spent a great deal of time waiting to be seen, and the manager arrived first and apologized for the delay. Our server was behind ten minutes the entire night, from our first drink order to the check. We sat with empty glasses throughout our meal, and it took 12-15 minutes to get our check and our card ran. We feel like we lost at least 30 minutes of our night waiting on assistance.nnIf we come back we will not be sitting with this server next time.
