I was a new patient I had very nice Dr. But she kept skipping our appointments so I'd end up seeing different people. I didn't mind though I understand that life and work can be demanding. I was instructed to go to the lab which is located up the stairs and had the most uncomfortable blood withdrawn of my life, but I thought well if it's to do all the main tests to ensure my baby's health then I'll do whatever they need me to. Anyways, I end up having a miscarriage but since once again my Dr was not there I had to wait a week for them to schedule my D&C. I felt horrible carrying a dead fetus for so long, the night before the surgery everything comes out I'm in pain and unable to take anything because my surgery is in a few hours, worst night of my life. To ensure everything is out, the D&C still happens and I skip my follow up because I'm depressed and burried under so much debt that was thrown at me right away. A few months pass and I build up the courage to face the nightmare I experienced and in hopes of an explanation, I talk to a nurse who just reminds me of missing my last appointment and tells me that they don't know what happened and they'd only be concerned if it happened at least 3 more times and left as that. I was pretty disappointed but I did understand since it was my first. So I go look for a different doctor at a different place to help me get healthier so that I am able to have a child. I tell her about my miscarriage and about my lab work being done already and in confidence I leave her to just get the results from this clinic, later that day I get a call from my new doctor saying they didn't do the standard tests that are normally done to pregnant patients and that I'll have to get them all done again. This got me so angry because I spent a lot of money on getting this terrible/painful lab work done just to realize nothing was really done. I don't recommend this place to anyone save your money and time and go elsewhere.
Their staff is very welcoming and quick to assist me as soon as I arrive. Rita Barron is my absolute favorite individual in that office! Although she is a midwife, she knows everything about everything and made my first pregnancy run so smoothly. There were a couple of complications along the way but she let me decide what to do so long as neither my baby nor I were in danger with my decisions. I look forward to working with her during my second pregnancy ud83dudc4dud83cudffc
I agree with the review that said this group deserves less than one star. I have been a patient there for many many years and when my doctor retired they said no other doctor on staff would see me. Then one of their employees intervened and I finally got an appointment but I would have to wait 6 months. I called to change that appointment and they said I would have to wait an additional 6 months. By that time I would have been 2 years out from my original appt they cancelled when my doctor retired. I don't know what their emphasis is, but it is their senior female patients....they don't care and really make you feel like they don't want you to be a patient there.
The office ( particularly the office manager) was not flexible whatsoever. I desired concurrent care because I wanted to have a home birth but still have an ob in case a complication arose during the pregnancy. When they were informed of this I got a certified letter in the mail that I would be discharged from their service. I also was told that they have a strong policy against midwives. So much for collaborative care.
If I can reach out and help one person while you take this review under consideration...then I feel I will have done my job in writing. I contacted Visalia OBGYN to perform a routine pelvic exam after a hysterectomy. It has been 3 months post op and I have chronic pain issues and wanted to find out what the cause could be. The Doctor that performed the surgery is a little over 3 hours away. Knowing I have pain, he was concerned about me making the long drive and suggested that I have the exam performed closer to home to see how the healing was occurring before continuing a course of action. I had been a patient at Visalia OBGYN 3 years ago so I didn't think it would be a problem just getting a pelvic check up. I left a message with a Doctor's assistant detailing my situation. The next day the Doctor's assistant called back and told me she had spoken to the Doctor. He suggested I see the Doctor that performed the surgery since he did not. When I told her the reason why my surgeon suggested I see someone local for my comfort because of the pain, she deflected and told me to contact a Doctor who was no longer practicing at their office but who I saw 3 years ago. The assistant's attitude was very dismissive and she did everything in her power to dissuade me from making an appointment. She even went as far as to question why I didn't go to the person who initially diagnosed my original condition for a hysterectomy in a very condescending manner. I told her this Doctor was also not in town. After debating the issue why I needed the exam, she reluctantly said she would talk with the Doctor again. Approximately a couple hours later, I received a phone call from the office manager. Although a bit more diplomatic in her delivery, she told me that she spoke with all the Doctors and that they were all too busy to take on any new patients at this time, including the retired Nurse Practitioner. I did tell her, at that point, I wasn't comfortable coming in for an appointment anyway. Again, her solution was to seek out the other Doctor who no longer practiced at their office and I was given that Doctor's number. Now, I don't know if all the Doctors at Visalia OBGYN were informed in regards to my situation. I only know that one Doctor decided he did not want to take on the responsibility knowing I had issues. If it is true, that all the doctors were informed and did not want to help, well, so much for the Hippocratic Oath. On the other hand, if no further information was ever given by the assistant or the office manager to any of the Doctors, then the two individuals I did speak with should be questioned for their appropriateness and integrity on handling a health situation that could be vital to someone's overall well-being. Clearly, either way, a condition that needed evaluation which did not concern their practice was considered taboo and unfit by someone's standards. However, I find it very interesting that if you pull up their website, the home page reads under all the practitioners faces: “New patients are welcome and appointments are readily available with all our providers.” Again, I felt compelled to share my own journey for those, like myself, who are seriously looking for solutions to their healthcare with no excuses or judgment.
