We ordered carry out on a rainy night. We didn’t have a menu but the server who answered the phone helped us select a delicious octopus salad with a creamy dressing, a delicious steak (that we cut into three portions at home) with a side of fingerling potatoes and came with a mushroom sauce and a reduced balsamic glaze (it may have been a wine glaze) and a side of panini bread with olive oil. It was a delicious fancy French bistro style dinner and well worth it. Highly recommend this charming spot for fine dining.
Finally open again! So glad Gertie and The Giant Octopus is open again and taking reservations! Please support this family business; it's our favorite date night restaurant. Very fancy and good price
This tiny treasure is an excellent place to enjoy a meal with someone special. It's good, so it can be hard to get a seat sometimes--that's the price you pay for way above average food and wine. The choices are fun, too. I like trying something new every time we treat ourselves to a meal there and I've always walked away satisfied.
You have to try this restaurant! This place is incredible. Great atmosphere and even better food. We ordered 2 specials that aren't on the regular menu, Octopus Tentacle and Beef Wellington. It was the best octopus I've ever tasted. Everything on the plate was delicious and complemented the octopus perfectly. The Beef Wellington was cooked and seasoned beautifully. It was one of the pricier entree's and was worth every penny. The item we ordered from the regular menu was the Fettuccine Alla Nona which is handmade pasta and it was incredible. We're from out of town and wish we could come back already!
My wife and I have been here several times before and each time everything has been 5 stars. The chicken, octopus and Brussels sprouts consistently were as good anything I've ever eaten in any restaurant. So we decided that's where we would go for Valentine's Day dinner. I was told on the phone when I made reservations that there would also be a prix fixe menu available. Once we arrived we learned that only the prix fixe menu was being served that night. I don't so much care that it was expensive for what you get, things there have always been on the high side. The difference last night was that the food was nowhere close to what we'd come to expect. To start we had a single oyster each, which now thinking back was the thing I enjoyed the most, it was straight downhill from there. Next was a pomegranate salad very virtually no pomegranate on it and no dressing that I could detect. It was bitter, dry greens. With the salad they served bread. My wife took a bite and said the bread was wet. I didn't believe her but when I took a bite she was right, not moist bread, wet bread. This was followed by what they called beef cheeks. This was beef slop in a bowl that tasted like cheap pot roast. And like pot roast it had big pieces of pure fat swimming around in it. Because of that I couldn't get more than halfway through the main course. Finally it was time for dessert and I got a chocolate bread pudding. It was fine, not great, not much chocolate flavor, but at least it was more good than it was bad. I hope this was an off-night for their kitchen, it seems like they took the easy way out but charged more than what their typical awesome food costs. We didn't bother complaining since we knew that's all they probably had available in the kitchen. We'll probably go back there some day, maybe not as soon as we otherwise might have. Last night's dinner was a huge disappointment and waste of more than $200. We'll never go back there for a prix fixe menu.
