My father just spent 3 weeks there before being transferred to a Memory Care ALF. I had a very pleasant experience with Shannon, Brenda and the nursing staff. This was such a difficult time for our entire family and they always treated us like family. They were caring, patient and understanding. Always had time to listen and willing to help however they could. The entire place was clean and organized. My father never had anything negative to say. I am very grateful for everyone at Cross Garden Care.

This homes neglect resulted in my mothers death. Believe the warnings you read here so that the same does not happen to your loved one.

I had concerns after reading the other reviews, but I now have a family member at Cross Garden and they are taking good care of him. I have visited several times. The staff are caring, compassionate, and professional, and there are a lot of them considering the size of this nursing home. To me that is the most important thing. I have been in several other nursing homes and many have a disregard for the patient. Not the case here. Now the rooms are a bit funky with old furniture, falling apart in some cases, but the patients are being cared for. Whomever owns the place could greatly improve the ambiance by buying some new furniture, painting the walls a cheerier color (dark green is a bit depressing), and by making some small upgrades. But as I said, the attitudes of the staff are the most important thing to me. Regarding comments by other posters: the screaming that happens here is from Alzheimer's patients, not from abuse. One woman in particular screams often and is shrill, but that is something you have to expect if you choose a nursing home that takes patients with Alzheimer's disease or extreme dementia. It is to the staffs credit that they don't drug the patients to keep them quiet. When patients are in their rooms with the door closed you don't notice it. Mostly a problem in the common areas if you are on the dementia floor.

I read a review from a person named Mariana and I felt I needed to chime in. As a maintenance director for another facility I feel I should set the record straight on the Elevator topic. I have worked in assisted living for 6 years and we have four elevators where I work. Now when it comes to inspections by the state. It is very common for the certificate in the elevator to expire before the state gets to it. Just look around at hotels, hospitals, and anywhere else. They typically run 6 months behind. As there about three inspectors in the whole state of florida. Now recently they have made a change where they are now allowing third party inspectors to jump in and do it. However the facility would need to pay for that. I for one have gone that route. However not every facility is going to do this and they are not obligated too either. As far as the rest of her review. I can’t weigh in on it. As I have never been there or have anyone I know there. I hope at least addressed the elevator certificate expiration comment.

I have to post my experience with this facility over A LONG period of time. The staff is all wonderful. The Admissions, Director Of Nursing And Directors Of Finances. The therapy staff is so caring and understanding. I feel the need to defend Cross Gardens because I have had an exceptionally good experience and exceptional care when it comes to my loved one. I disagree with some of the negative reviews. I have had a friend of mine (who’s mother was a nurse educator) comment on HOW CLEAN AND HOW NICE this place smells compared to other nursing facilities. Many of these patients are having frequent accidents and that can be hard to constantly accommodate. I have to say that my loved one is bathed, changed and kept very clean. The foot doctor is wonderful! It is an older facility but do NOT let that fool you. It may be older and not fancy but that does NOT reflect the level of care being given or the state of things being cleaned. I personally have visited people who are privately paying $10,000 a month for a loved one and their facility did not compare to the clean standard of Cross Gardens. Cross Gardens was cleaner. It is a small facility with low number of patients to CNA which is great. The stations head nurses are experienced and awesome. I have never had my loved one’s clothing lost. His belongings are always cared for. I also feel it is a family members responsibility to advocate for their loved one but also their responsibility to develops a positive relationship for the staff who is caring for their loved one. This is the toughest job in the world. These patients require the highest level of care. I have been visiting for over 2 1/2 years now and the staff is what allows me to sleep every night with a peace of mind.
