Pagoda Chinese Restaurant & Bar

Talk of the town when asked where to go while visiting Fairbanks. Hands down the best Chinese restaurant I’ve been to in a long time. From the time we walked in the door until we left service was excellent. Came right before the lunch crowd so no wait time. Server was very knowledgeable with the menu and pointed us in the right selection. The appetizer soups were loaded with flavor as well as our entree’s!!! Plenty of food for the lunch portion for sure! Fresh vegetables and fried rice was to die for. Their yellow hot mustard for the egg rolls was the best tasting sauce I’ve had!

This is best Chinese restaurant in Interior Alaska, for all I know, all of Alaska. Most weekend evenings there will be a wait for seating in both the restaurant and bar. Food is always spot on and a huge menu selection. What I find most amazing is the ribeye steak, yep, at a Chinese restaurant. Service is fast and we'll organized. Full service bar, with flat screens on all the walls. Huge local following, recommend stopping in if visiting or new to the Fairbanks area.

Called to order for pick up and was told on the phone that it would be ready in “15-20 minutes” (and ended up waiting 50 minutes) so we showed up after 20 minutes and they told me it was not ready yet. After about 15 minutes of waiting I asked if I was able to at least pay for my food while I waited, and so I did and asked if they knew how much longer of a wait it would be. She went back to check and said they were boxing it up. Waited another 15 minutes before it was brought out to us. I get being busy, but they should be able to gauge a 15 minute wait versus a 50 minute wait... and they did not apologize for the wait time at all.

This was my favorite place to go up until last night. I always order the same thing but was unaware that there was the normal meal and then a combo. I have always ordered by saying “cashew chicken” and it has come with the soup and egg roll. I’ve never asked for the combo so I thought this was the normal meal. The second time I went to Pagoda I asked about the small red pieces in my rice and found out it is a Japanese style of barbecue pork. I asked for them to leave that out and of course they did. Last night when I went, I asked for the cashew chicken like always and asked for no barbecue pork or onions. I was repeatedly told that this does not come with the meal. I told them about my past experience and spoke to two servers and the owner. They were all very rude and disrespectful. Instead of repeatedly telling me I was wrong they could have informed me about the difference between the cashew chicken meal and the combo considering how well they claim to know their menu. Even after receiving my food, I told them that this was not what I normally order and the server responded with “I don’t know what you’re talking about” and never came back to the table. My meal also had onions on it even though I asked for none. I was not able to inform a server because no one came back by until it was time to box up our food. Having serving experience in a restaurant... this experience has really upset me with how things were dealt with. I’m not sure if we’ll be back to Pagoda.
