Ajax Tavern

We scored an outside table for lunch. A beautiful spot, right at the base of Aspen mountain. We shared the cauliflower gratin as an appetizer and I had the Ajax wagyu double cheeseburger (lettuce wrapped, minus the cheese). Everything was delicious. The cashew cheese sauce that came with the cauliflower was good on everything! Would go back.

They bragged about how large all of the portions were, but then when they arrived at the table... just normal. So that was odd... anyways, I had the hamburger and it was great. Great view as well of the slope watching being come down to the gondola.

Called to make a reservation and was told that seating was first come, first served before 5p. Awesome. Upon arriving at the restaurant, though, I was informed that it would be a 40 minute wait while half of the tables were empty as those tables were “reserved.” The food looked decent, but not worth the effort of convincing the prejudiced staff that you are deserving of a table in their restaurant.

The charcuterie board and the wagyu beef burger were excellent. The service was very impersonal and we felt rushed. But you can't expect the best service at the base of a ski lift! Well worth the visit for a quick bite.

If you want to be treated like they don’t care about your business, this is your place! We were here with a pregnant woman who wanted to sit at an empty table while we waited for a table to open in the heated tent. There were other empty tables outside and they insisted that we get up and refused to take our order for coffee. The hostess was incredibly rude. We asked to speak to a manager who was even worse. We left and went somewhere else and had a much better time.nnDo not come here if you expect friendly service.
