I had an extensive hernia repair which was done by Dr. Byron Smith in the Madison Street office at the beginning of summer. It's been many, many years since I've had any kind of surgery and I will be honest, I was scared to death.nScared because I am much older, much, much heavier (I don't smoke thank God) and I was seriously afraid I was not going to wake up. Just some crazy story I was telling myself.nFrom the very beginning when I met with Miss Tammy, Dr. Smith's right hand and then afterwards, at the follow up appt, I was treated with respect, professionalism, kindness and patience by everyone involved.nDr. Smith is a very natural, good ol' boy type of gentleman, polite, friendly and on the ball with figuring out what was wrong. If I brought it up one time, I brought it up a dozen times, that I was afraid to go under because it was so difficult for me to wake up when I had surgery in my 30's. He reassured me several times that waking up was going to be a piece of cake and he had worked on folks, larger than me.nWell, the times have changed and so had anesthesia!!! Those days of waking up nauseous, disoriented and feeling like poop, no longer exist, or maybe they didn't exist for me.nI had surgery at the outpatient center and Miss Tammy was with me from beginning to end. The two nurses who took care of me in the surgery center were outstanding and did their best to calm my nerves. My hernia was pretty big, gross and looked like I had swallowed a pumpkin, but Dr. Smith fixed me right up.nAfter the surgery, I was monitored until it was time to go home and you are taken to your car in a wheelchair.nOf course there was a recovery time, but that was all on me...Dr. Smith came high recommended by one of my co-workers whose daughter had her gallbladder removed by him and was super happy with the entire experience as was I.nA++++ all around, from beginning to end.
