CHKD Health and Surgery Center at Oyster Point

This place has caused me so much grief and considering I don’t want to end up in trouble for telling them how I feel in person I’ll say what I have to say here. My daughter was sent here for an X-ray over a bony knot on her skull. No side effects no problems just to get it checked out. Same size no growth over years. My daughter has a sensory disorder and possible autism and she’s very tiny and as a mother watching her scream, kick and cry red and over heating for an X-ray she obviously couldn’t handle was very traumatic and depressing for me as a mother to put her through that even once. The results come back and it’s a very brief description of basically they have no clue what it is..... They recommend a CT scan... my daughter is small around 1 at that time we all know at this point that radiation exposure can be detrimental to our children especially this young and here I am with a little girl in the third percentile being asked to torture my kid again, so I see a dermatologist. The dermatologist says it seems like a dermoid cyst but hears my concern as does my child’s pediatrician and they reply back with a request for an ultrasound instead of more radiation exposure to my child ad she doesn’t have to be held down which suits me as a worried mother. THIS PLACE SAYS NO!!!!! OUR RADIOLOGIST RECCOMENDED A CT SCAN !!! I understand that an ultrasound may not have the results you’re looking for but as a medical professional a patient’s future health and mental health should be considered more than just your quick convenience. You don’t have to bear the pain of the mother’s to the children you exposed to radiation for convenience. YOU don’t have to feel the weight of watching Their child that they birthed fight for their lives, YOU DONT HAVE TO PAY THE MEDICAL BILLS AND FUNERAL BILLS! learn to have more Compassion and patience and realize these children aren’t an assembly line and need to be taken care of on a case by case basis according to the parent and the child’s comfort! Med school taught you by the books but were humans outside of that not paragraphs! I called VCU radiology for their opinion and they said We have no problem giving your daughter an ultrasound if u want to travel here just have your pediatrician send a request. it was that easy. We parent are our children’s biggest advocates and protection and shouldn’t have to be bullied by a children’s medical professional! I wish I could give 0 stars because of all the anger and anxiety and frustration this place gave me and still gives me as a mother. Stand your ground for your kids even if it takes extra work to do what’s right.

Rude as hell. Terrible experience. Some days are good, but most days are terrible going there. Not worth the money, time or patience.

I brought my daughter here tonight for a fever and possible dehydration. The nurses and staff were very attentive, caring and patient. It didn’t take long, maybe 40 minutes from when I arrived until I was walking out. I will definitely come back if need be. Very clean rooms, and they have extra diapers/wipes for stressed parents who may have forgot something! Thank you CHKD.

My daughter had to have her newborn screen redone for the 4th time because Mary immaculate couldn’t do it right. The woman who did it did a amazing job! She heated my baby girls foot up and poked her one time and got plenty of blood from her heel. Couldn’t ask for a better person to do it! Absolutely amazing!!! The front desk staff was great and the registration was great overall a very good experience here

Everyone I encountered, especially Rhonda from Lab services was so friendly!
