Pepi's Bar & Restaurant

This is the best German restaurant in the United States. If you close your eyes while eating you can almost feel like you are in Bavaria. I had a large group that needed a reservation and I spoke with Shayne and she was a DELIGHT! Am odd assemblage of unrelated rooms, hooked at the hips willy-nilly as Pepi's has expanded over the decades. Fun place with lively patrons, good music, excellent staff, and decent food. I've always had a very happy time at Pepi's. I make a point of visiting whenever I go to Vail, and never regret it. The only reason I don't give it five stars is that the food is okay but not special. Order the burger rather than the French onion soup. The cheese plate is very well done.

We love your food and the ambiance on the square in Vail. My favorite dish was the domestic duck on the menu. We have been loyal patrons for 30 years. Is there any chance you would be introducing it back on the menu?

Food and service deserve 5 stars (our waiter was very very nice) but since the maitre was more like a neurotic witch who did not only slap my husband in the arm (yes, I said slap!) to call his attention to step into the dinning room, and later one of our kids because he was too loud, but also she kept telling us that our kids were loud when they were talking as everyone else was. Definitely not a family restaurant and unfortunately a bad experience like this one will keep us from returning. I have been coming to Vail for over 30 years and by far, this has been the worst treatment I have received so far.nIn case you decide to give it a try (leave kids at home!), we really enjoyed the escargots, the onion soup, the truffled gnocchi, the lamb and I loved the cocktail but cant remember the name of it.

I love Pepi’s. it is one of my favorite places for a great lunch or dinner. The European menu is great on a winter day. I recommend the goulash, weinersnitzel and of course the bratwurst. Apple Strudel is a must for desert. Yum!
