I have been dining at the White Horse tavern for years, and it's a lovely experience. We drove down from Boston to Newport on a whim, and were thrilled that we could get in at lunch. It's the real thing, captures the colonial vibe of Newport because it's authentic. That said, the food is fresh, delicious and beautifully plated. Service was expert, we had a wonderful lunch. My lobster salad BLT was delicious. The side salad was farm fresh, as promised. Great place.

A delightfully cozy pub with loads of history. We went only for after-dinner drinks after a day in Newport, and we sat at the bar, which proved to be an excellent choice. We chatted with the friendly bartender for a while - I think his name was Ian - and sipped on delicious cocktails while he told us some stories about this historical location. I had the best whisky sour I've ever had, and now I'm afraid to try them anywhere else. I'd been dreaming of going to this place for many years, as the oldest bar in America, and it definitely lived up to my expectations!

No point in reserving a place here. Ended up seated on the upper most floor-third which was so dimly lit I couldn’t even see my plate. Seated right in front of an open store room with an exit sign on top of it. My view was old chairs stacked in the store room. I mean why at all seat someone there when there are so many other unoccupied tables all of them reasonably socially distanced. Below average appetizers!nnThe only saving grace was our host waiting the table, Sara and the entrees. We had the duck & the catch of the day!

Extraordinary food, service, and ambiance. Best we’ve had in Newport so far and will 100% be back soon. This place is not overhyped. Definitely met any and all expectations.

Not at all the quaint, beautiful fine dining restaurant I knew from years of coming here! So sad it changed so much, especially since I was only last here in 2020, and even with the pandemic.nnThis historic and once charming, Colonial period restaurant is now just a tavern. Period. Doubt any of our founding fathers would stop in for a pee.nnFood is ok, really not that special, and their dress code of “business casual” leaves A LOT to the imagination.nnThigh-high boots and sleeveless Harley t-shirts are not at all what I expected to be sitting next to when I paid $46.20 for “Beef Wellington” for my partners 60th Birthday dinner.nnA party of four, very inebriated people sat next to us, where they cackled and disrupted the small dining room we were sitting in. The waitstaff wisely hid out of sight, including the restaurant manager, but not before they kept taking away our ONE paper copy of the menu, and wine list.nnWe were REALLY looking forward to ordering some $$$$$ wine- staff seemed more interested in serving the obnoxiously drunk table next to us.nnOur waitress was lovely, but the manager was rude to me on the phone, and even more so when I complained about our awful table, and how drunk the table was next to us. I couldn’t even hear what was being said at my table.nnHaving been here several times before, it’s unfortunate to see how much it’s changed in only a few years.nn>nnDON’T order the Wellington, it was very small and soggy
