I’ve been to the snug a few times, each a very different experience. The snug has good drinks, but I will probably never go back because of how my friends and I were treated by the bar tender. The snug has a very odd dog policy. They make it seem like it’s okay to bring dogs in, but then once you do, the bar tender is immediately very rude. With that being said, the second time I was in the snug, she had a small dog in her arms behind the bar, so she is very inconsistent with who she decides to be snippy to. I’ve never personally brought my dog in, but my friends have and each time, a very bad experience.nnI just want to say 1. Don’t bring your dogs to The Snug and 2. The Snug owners should apply common sense and get rid of their weird rules about dogs and just say service dogs only.

Bartender was very rude and condescending. After checking my friends and my ID's, instead of handing them back to us like normal bartenders would do, she tossed them back at us as if we were beaneath her. When pouring our drinks, she was shaking her head and rolling her eyes as if we were inconveniencing her with our business. You would think that as a person working on tips you would be pleasant and nice to your guests, but apparently not. Also, they 'allow dogs' but only if your dog does not MOVE a muscle. Basically they allow service dogs only, which is completely fine. My friend had his dog and we were shown the dog policy 3 times as well as got dirty looks from the bartender the entire time we were there. Being a dog owner, I know there are rules with dogs going into businesses, but don't say dogs are allowed when clearly you don't want them there. Could not believe the rudeness. Would not recommend.

The Snug is an odd gem in Portland. It's far enough from downtown to not be overrun with tourists, but close enough to walk if you are one. The staff is incredibly friendly and has won several awards for it. The beer menu wasn't huge, but had a good selection of local brew across several styles. The atmosphere and patrons are fairly townie, but cozy and comfortable with nice benches and big tables. Drinks were super cheap as well.
