Great music with folks who want to hear the music - not talk over it. Audio was clear and the room was just right sized. Probably hard to get in on a weekend. Cover charge was there but I'm fine with that for a great band! This place appears to be duplicated on a larger scale in the airport, I'll be checking that place out when I'm waiting for planes in the evening in the future!
Great venue for local talent. Low admission cost and moderately priced drinks. No dance floor tho. A lot of seating inside & out and there is usually a food truck parked outside for quick bites.
I can’t believe we have not been here before. We went on a Monday night to the early show and heard Hoody and the Wolves. They were great. Where else but Austin can you walk in to have a beer and see a terrific show like this.nBrenda Hood, the vocalist puts on anShow. She is a good musician and entertainer. There were several other excellent entertainers as well. I would go just to listen to the saxophone player. The other musicians were equally as good including the keyboard, drummer and guitar player. Hell, they were all good. All in all, just strolling in and having a couple of beers and having two hours of extremely good entertainment. What else could you ask for. I hope people leave this band a good tip because they certainly deserve it. They play with skill, heart and joy. The venue is excellent and we will be back.
Aside from your typical drunk that disturbs the show, a great venue and place to catch a show. All establishments need to step up their policing of boorish behavior, but in a venue with the intimate size of Saxon pub it’s all the more critical. If the artist or performer can hear your drunken pronouncements it’s incredibly disrespectful to musician and patrons alike. Step up and say something, or better yet, kick them out.
There are certain iconic places in Austin that everyone (of age) should go to. This is one of those. Back in the day this place was so smoke filled you could get cancer in one visit. But today it is smoke free YEA. The Dam Torpedos were great... were off the chart good. Lots of fun.
