If I could give Karen and her staff 10 stars I would because 5 just isn’t enough! I switched to her at 34 weeks due to Covid-19. Any question we had was answered in our very first meeting with her. She made us feel like we were in way better hands than with a physician. She spent more time with us in our first visit than my physician had in the 34 weeks prior combined. At 41 weeks she delivered our sweet boy. I loved that she let my husband be my rock and only made suggestions when she saw fit. It was truly and amazing experience! Her attention, kindness, and small details such as the flag in the picture meant the world to us. My only wish is that I could have done it with my first two! Thank you so much to Karen and her staff!

NLBC's midwife, Karen, was so much more accessible to me as a first-time mom than any OBGYN ever could or would be. She was so patient with my endless stream of questions. The personalized attention here was more than I could have expected elsewhere.nnI was freaked out about getting to Rocky Mount during an expected storm after my water broke, so my husband and I ended up at the birth center THREE DAYS waiting for labor to start. (I don't recommend doing that!) Since I was so nervous, Karen didn't make me go home but let us stay (which meant she had to stay there 3 days too), and waited with me and helped me try all different natural ways to induce labor.nnWhen my situation became unmanageable after hours of hard labor I ended up being the 1 in 20 to get transferred to the hospital which freaked me out more, but Karen never left my side. She was there from beginning to end. Even though I ended up with the dreaded c-section, she gave me every opportunity to avoid it. I probably would have gotten one much sooner in the hospital. I would go back to NLBC again if I could, but they don't do v-backs.

She treated me as she explained the hospitals to be. I was overwhelmed with attention, my opinions were not valued, I felt I had no say, and my soon to be husband was belittled. She promised beforehand the exact opposite. She had also promised she was a trained professional and would know when it was necessary to send me to the hospital. After 30+ hours of hell and me and all of my family asking if something was wrong and her saying there wasn't... I made the decision myself. In the hospital I was informed I only had a few hours to get him out or I would need an emergancy csection. She wrote down the wrong time of my water breaking and didn't believe it was 3 hours previous like I had said. The hospital informed me that was incredibly ignorant and she put his life at risk. The two assistants were incredable but she should not be trusted with any childs life.
