If you’re not in the know, you’d never guess the magnitude of delicious soups, sandwiches, and sumptuous pies, that line the baker’s racks and refrigerator shelves inside Gene’s Variety, prepared on site, in the kitchen of this understated Italian market. It’s almost misleading to call it an Italian market because in today’s vernacular that’s a retro brand that makes a conscious effort to evoke something retro because almost with gusto of the Italian neighborhood it was par of. It is a treasure at the top of Water Street. Wonderfully priced. Nothing fancy here, except the food which is fit for Count and Contessa. If Home-Style could be regal, dig in.

I love this one of a kind business. I’m Italian and to me it’s still my go to “Little Italian store” Very clean, professional, and helpful!! I’m happy with that as it ALWAYS has been! But the memories and wonderful feelings that come flooding back. I remember sitting at Gene’s Counter havingworld has shrunk through all this technology a soda taking a break from riding my bike with my dog Tippy.” Times have changed, not much we remember is the same, technology has shrunken our world....nAnd then there’s Genes, warm, welcoming, like family! Love it ther!!!!nExcellent food!!!!!!
