Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital

Everyone was super nice! They made sure I was taken care of in a reasonable amount of time.

New Technician for my mammogram the other day was fantastic. The girl I’ve had for the last 10+ years retired recently and someone knew was there she was very caring very concerned about not causing pain and just a really nice person to talk to.

My husband passed away September 7, 2020. We have a private insurance policy that pays us directly when he has been hospitalized. In order to file a claim we need a copy of the itemized bill showing cost and procedure codes. Seems like it should be easy to obtain one right? Not with Northwestern. I was able to obtain one from Mercy (where he was a patient before being transferred to Northwestern. ) It only took one phone call and Mercy had it to me in less than a week. I have made repeated phone calls to Northwestern to no avail. At first I was told it would be sent right out. Never came. Called back and was told I needed to fax them a copy of the death certificate and a copy showing I was executor and had power of attorney. I did that the very same day.. Was told I would receive the documents within 2 weeks. Did not receive them. Called back and was told they didn't have the documents but they kept looking and found them and assured me I would receive the documents in 10 days. Guess what? Didn't happen. I called back and was told to go on MyChart and print them from there. My husband didn't have a mychart account and I can't establish one for him (could it be because he is deceased?). Called back and was told that if I drove to McHenry and went to the office they might be able to print the documents up for me. The catch was the lady I was talking to didn't know if the hospital was open to walk ins. She assured me that each time I called the request was sent to the office to have the records sent to me. I asked her that since I had called so many times and have not been able to obtain the documents I need shouldn't someone on their end walk over to that office and ask what the hold-up was and why did they not send me an itemized bill with procedure codes. I guess that would be too complex for them. I asked to talk to a supervisor. They put me on hold and after a while came back and asked me for my number so the supervisor could return my call either that day or the following day. Guess who never called. Northwestern happens to be the organization where all of my doctors are affiliated with. I am very close to finding new doctors who are affiliated with other medical facilities. I've had it with this poorly run organization. I give them 1 star and only that high of a rating because they do hire nice doctors and nurses.

Zero was not an option, this is the most poorly managed ER, walk in with literally one patient in the waiting room and we are going on over 2 hours and still waiting in the lobby. This is not the first time I've had ridiculous wait times in this hospital, I let it go the first time as they were busier, but this is ridiculous they need to figure something out to better take care of patients.

I have been in McHenry Hospital three times since October 10, 2018. Two people to a room my first two visits. It was not pleasant. The food was good. My last visit was due to Covid 19. When they got me out of bed I did better. I caught Covid 19 while in rehab. I really needed help ordering food. Couldn't eat and lost 25 pounds. The nurses and doctors used all precautions.
