I called Smithfield Customer Service and left a voicemail concerning their deceptive labeling, however, no one has ever returned my call. The product that I purchased was labeled, in big bold letters, Shank Half Ham, but that is not the case, to the right, on that same label in small letters it reads Shank Portion Ham.nA 1/2 of a ham will have center cut ham steak slices remaining on the cut. The cut, whether shank or butt half, will have center slices remaining. When sold as a portion the center slices are removednmaking a half a better cut . The end result was a portion ham with too much water content for which we paid half ham price. ALL BECAUSE THE LABEL IS MISLEADING.

UPDATE: I want to update my previous review on Smithfield Marketplace. Upon hearing about my issue with customer service below and the 25% discount, I received a call from Smithfield Marketplace supervisor and they honored the discount and will refund me without having to refuse the order and reorder. I appreciate their attention to this matter. I have been and will always be a loyal customer. Thank you for doing the right thing. Greatly appreciated....nnSadly one star is too many because after being a loyal customer for decades - 60 years ago I lived in Virginia and as a kid went to the local drug store every Sunday morning after church with my parents to get this genuine smithfield ham. This is 1960 folks. My family has continued to be a customer even when we moved from Virginia. But since they were bought by a chinese company in 2013 the customer service has gone down and prices up dramatically. I tried to place an order on CyberMonday and the 25% site wide discount was not honored because the product I wanted was 'conveniently' out of stock and I wasn't allowed to place the order to receive the discount. Oh but the product was in stock the next day! So I placed my order and naturally the 25% discount wasn't available. Now today I checked on the status of my order and found out the 25% site wide discount is available again but Smithfield will not credit my account. Since the product has been shipped I would need to refuse delivery, send it back to Smithfield and they would refund me the entire amount in 14 days and I could reorder the product and get the 25% discount if it was available at the time. What?? Go through all this instead of just credit my account. Company policy states they can't just refund or credit the card on file. I told the supervisor she just lost a customer and her reply was it happens all the time. I know it wouldn't have with the previous owners. Well sad to say it won't happen to me again. I'm done. It won't break Smithfield but maybe stop someone else from ordering from them.

I wrote a review the other day stating my disappointment with my ham order and the way customer service treated my complaint. Unexpectantly a Manager/Supervisor called me and apologized for the situation and outcome of my complaint. She was most professional and gracious and sincere about not wanting to lose us as 20 year customers. I really appreciated the call, I did not expect anything but maybe a discount for future purchases; she even asked if she could send us another ham out for the Holidays. I definitely will keep on with future purchases! She made my day!

We loved the ham, I baked it and had it Christmas day. It was delicious that day and plenty for sandwiches later. Ham and biscuits as well. The price of 99 cents a pound at Kroger made it affordable. Thanks Kroger and Smithfield for making Christmas dinner delicious.
