Slow, slow service. Decent food, cool history.

I had the grilled portabella sandwich, my mom had the cheese steak sandwich and my stepson had the grilled chicken sandwich. The food was good and the portions were a generous size. The value was exactly what I would expect to see in Alexandria. The decor looks like it hasn't changed since George at there!

Very clean and safe during pandemic. Still as nice and hospitable as it was 25 years ago when we were here! Food was great!

I had a delightful time here. Notwithstanding some of the surly reviews and haughty expectations of some, I loved reading about the history of this place and Alexandria as a whole, and figured I’d give it a chance.nnThe exterior is unassuming, but indeed, it’s like a trip back in time. Wooden floors and paneled walls grace the rustic, comfy vibe of the place, with dinner by candlelight.nnThe free bread was filling and sweet, a nice way to start things out.nnI had the grilled salmon, and the fish tasted so darn good I thought for a brief it was caught fresh out of the river. The sautéed spinach and rice served as a good complement to the salmon, as did the more adventurous hot apple cider.nnI booked a time I thought would be in-demand (a Friday night) and was surprised to find me and my companion sharing a room with only one other party, a family of five seated across the room. You may have similar luck depending on the occasion.nnThe price was far more affordable than I expected, dinner for two was at around $32 per person, tax inclusive. We paid contactless - the QR code on the check lets you pay on your phone.nnAll in all, a stellar experience. I hope the folks working there know that they’re doing a good job and hope they continue to amaze! :)

Great historical place and great food. I had the meatloaf dinner and it was fantastic. I tried the peanut soup and was pleasantly surprised how good it was. Definitely a place to go to when you are in town.
