Absolutely everyone on staff at Hilo Medical Center is outstanding! From the Doctors, nurses, aides, physical and occupational therapists, to kitchen and janitorial staff. Didn’t have the best experience with them, but I give it 3 stars because the ER nurse , Douglas, and Dr. Fitzgerald were heroes that saved my dad’s life. We went in and out of the ER for four nights straight, but no doctor really cared enough to do a thorough check of what was happening with him.... the fourth night we got lucky because we were seen by Doug and Dr. Fitz. They’re AMAZING and they provided the best care for my dad.

Elena Cabatu is awesome!nI had trouble getting registered for the covid-19 vaccine because of a glitch with my business email. My wife said that Elena just got her registered and that I should try to email her.nNot only did she email me back within 30 minutes, but gave me her cell number to call her. Not only did she get me registered for 4/3/21, but she was able to schedule me to be vaccinated the same as my wife!nShe really went beyond the call and I really appreciated that!

A big THANK YOU to doctor Abelowitz! He is a world class pediatrician, and most importantly an exceptional human being. Doctors are under more pressure than ever before (COVID), and he manages to give our family + the other patients he cares for his undivided attention during all visits. &He has such wonderful bedside manner.

The nursing staff here are great, the ER doctor, Dr. Gerber was absolutely terrible. I brought my son in for fever, chills, body aches and GI pain, he was not able to eat or drink in 3 days. The ER doctor did not listen to the patient in regards to symptoms, he ran tests that produced no answers. I requested a flu and COVID test be done, the doctor agreed to do a COVID test but refused to test for flu because he has not seen any flu this season. The flu has not been eradicated and perhaps he hasn’t seen it because they won’t test for it. My son was diagnosed with heartburn and sent home with no relief of symptoms and is now going on day 8 without eating and very minimal fluid intake. This ER visit was a complete waste of time and money. Unless your loved one is deathly ill, avoid this ER.
