Tropics Tap House - Keauhou

We ate lunch there today, and the whole family loved it. The burger was absolutely delicious. My kids got pasta, and it was so good my wife even nibbled on a few noodles. Her salad was equally tasty. And to top it off, they've got plenty of great beer to choose from. We're definitely going back, and highly recommend - especially if you're got a family!

Review based on our experience on one visit only. Chose this place based on location and menu as we were headed out for an early evening Manta Ray snorkel near the Sheraton. In the Keauhou Shopping Center. Underrated location for ocean and sunset views as it sits above the highway. Plenty of seating facing the ocean. Friendly waitress with attentive service. Pretty typical pub menu with some local style exceptions. We informed our server that we were on a bit of a tight time window due to the snorkel and she said no problem. She also was very accommodating as our drinks-Arnold Palmer and half Diet Coke/half ginger ale were a bit out of the ordinary. Chose not to eat too heavy as we were getting in the water soon. Fortunately the salads all came as whole or half which was perfect. Started with an order of coconut shrimp. 6 plump shrimp perfectly cooked that tasted like they may have been breaded to order but probably not. Either way they were some of the best we’ve had. Served with sweet chili sauce.nWife chose a half tomato and mozzarella salad served over spring greens and local onion. She really enjoyed the mozzarella, the tomatoes, and the dressing but the amount of greens, even on a half salad, was a lot. Dressing really enhanced the whole dish. I chose a half Caesar with grilled chicken. Pretty standard but it appeared the chicken had been grilled to order rather than the pre-cooked and just heated we find in many places. Quantity of chicken was really nice. Waitress kept our waters filled and seemed genuinely interested if we had everything we needed. And we had time to spare on our way to our snorkel. Very nice meal.

Stopped in after a trip south. Bar tenders were super nice. Food was EXCELLENT! Great views too! Nice atmosphere and it wasn't crowded when we were there, but the parking lot was crammed when we were trying to leave! People were headed there!

I have been wanting to try a burger from Tropics since I moved to Kona almost 5 years ago and I'm slapping myself for waiting so long! The cooks at this joint can really deliver that Hawaii grass fed beef the right way! I visited with my mom at and we both ordered the $10 happy hour burger, and it was great! But the TRUE MVP was Kevin, it was busy when we arrived (4:30 on a Friday) but I immediately noticed Kevin hustling around bussing/cleaning AND he sat us at our table. Near the window facing that great little book store. Thank you Tropics crew for showing us value doesn't have to break the bank even on the west side of Hawaii!

Saved my life. Great management and service. The Catholic Church could award them Sainthood for their good deeds.
