My wife and I had lunch at the restaurant in the lodge! The food was delicious and perfectly proportioned. She had the BLT and tots and I had the mushroom and swiss hamburger with tots. Reasonably priced, service was fast, the only downside, of you call it that, was, I couldn't eat any more...

First time we've eaten here since it was under new management/new chef. We made reservations and arrive a bit early, but we were seated promptly anyway. The inside of the establishment was nice, wood beams, clean, comfortable.nThe hostess was friendly and helpful when we asked a question about something on the menu.nnThe meal came with complimentary bread which was soft, and had a hint of sweetness to it. We both enjoyed it.nnWe ordered the Pimento cheese and potato appetizer which was something we've never eaten before anywhere, and it was delicious! Melty cheese goodness!nnMy husband ordered the Duke burger and it is the best burger in this valley hands down. Soft supple bun, meat had great flavor and seasoning and we got the 1/2lb so it was a big burger. Great toppings and the kinky sauce really put it over the top. His side was a loaded baked potato, which cost extra. He said the potato was good, but next time he wouldn't pay the 2 dollars extra for the loaded part, it wasn't worth the extra cost for what you got.nnI ordered the half rack of ribs with kinky sauce and the mac and cheese. The ribs were smoky, the sauce was great. Easy to get the meat off the bone. A lot of meat on the bones too. The mac and cheese wasn't anything special unfortunately. Kind of one note, but I added a little kinky sauce to it and that helped jazz it up. It needed some extra flavor, or some crunch from bacon, or maybe some of those potato chips crumbled on top. Or panko breadcrumbs. I don't know, it needed something to make it more memorable and flavorful IMO.nnThe asparagus was the vegetable of the day and while I like asparagus, it was cooked a little less than I like my asparagus. I realize this is a personal preference, so if you like your veggies more on the crisp side you will like these, I like my veggies cooked very well done.nnWe asked about desserts and we were told they had a chocolate truffle. We asked what that was because the only truffles we've had were the kind you would find in a chocolate candy box, but the server had no idea. She said it was a new item and she didn't know what it was because she hasn't seen it yet. Most likely had she described it in any kind of detail we would have gotten dessert, but she had no idea and didn't even offer to find out more information, so we passed on dessert. There were other desserts available, but they just didn't seem that exciting either. It's a shame because we love a good dessert. Maybe next time the server will do a better job of describing the desserts, or hand out a daily dessert menu with descriptions so that people know what they are ordering.nnOverall we had a lovely time, the food was good. The service was friendly, quick and helpful. A few minor details kept me from being able to give it 5 stars, but we will go back again and see if the next time it is a 5 star experience.

Restaurant is under new management. We were the food testers for the new management. The dinner food was great. The buckshot shrimp and stake meal was fantastic. This is a huge change from our last experience.

We stayed at Colter's Lodge in Afton, WY, on a Saturday in mid-March 2020, right before the world went on lockdown because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even though official closure or service reduction orders hadn't been issued, the place was very quiet. Still, we enjoyed our stay there. The property was sold to new owners several years ago who have done a great job of remodeling the rooms at this historic hotel. They also made the difficult decision to convert the bar to non-smoking, which didn't go over well at first with the locals, but people are gradually adjusting.nnWe stayed in room #24, which has a king bed, flat screen TV, coffee pot and mini-fridge, but no microwave. The bar was serving a limited menu the evening we stayed there; we had appetizers of chicken wings and sriracha shrimp, which were really good. We also had breakfast in the café the next morning, again, a limited menu due to the drop-off in traffic. The young man doing double duty as both cook and waiter makes a mean sausage gravy! All the staff we met -- Laura Faye, Barry, Jeff, Jake, and the gals at the bar -- were very friendly and welcoming.nnThe only reason Colter's doesn't get 5 stars is because the rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors, and at the moment, there is no elevator. That didn't bother us at all, but those with mobility limitations might prefer to stay at a newer (read ADA-compliant) hotel, or, just wait awhile: plans are underway to install an elevator, but certain approvals have to be obtained before the work can proceed because the building is on the National Historic Register.nnWhen all this COVID-19 business is said and done, we hope to be able to visit Colter's Lodge again!

The room we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. We were lucky to get the last room the night we stayed in Afton, Sept 17, 2020. The value was so much better than overpriced Jackson, WY. Linda, the housekeeping manager, was super nice and wanted to make sure our stay was nice. We had a great breakfast - chicken fried steak, 2 eggs, hash browns, and biscuit in the hotel restaurant. You certainly don't go away hungry and one of the owners, Barry, refilled our coffee cups and took time to chat with us. He introduced us to the other owner, Ken, and they both told us about some great hiking ideas in the Grand Tetons. Next time we head up to Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons, we will definitely look to come back to Colters Lodge. Great value; nice, comfortable, and clean accommodations; friendly staff and owners. Can't beat that!
