UP Health System - Marquette

Had to go here to figure out why I couldn't walk or balance properly and to detox from severe alcoholism. The nurses were amazing and very attentive, the doctors were extremely nice and very knowledgeable, and they even gave me warm clothes to wear because I was underprepared for the cold weather. I honestly couldn't ask for a better experience for having spent a week there!

In the emergency room with my boyfriend, The pain/nausea medicine they gave him didn’t work and they told him they would be back shortly after making him wait the amount of time you have to wait to see if it works. It didn’t work. I’m just sitting here with the call button pressed for the past 20 minutes. My boyfriend is basically in agony and you can hear him moaning all the way down the hall and they ignore the call and his pain. Eventually 35 minutes after I pressed the call button a nurse with an attitude comes in and said the doctor is aware he needs medication. Another 25 minutes go by. No doctor. We press the other call button on the wall. A nurse rushes in and says that button is for emergencies only, and that again the doctor is aware that your boyfriend is in pure agony and needs pain medication. I’m not a Karen okay. I don’t normally like to complain about things, but I’m not exaggerating the level of pain he was in. My boyfriend is a tough guy I’ve never seen him in this much pain. His bill is going to be $4,000. That he has to pay out of pocket. To be left suffering in a room with no one coming to assist in an hour besides giving him an attitude and telling him basically we know you are in pain but you can deal with it. IN THE EMERGENCY ROOM! after giving him a pain medication that they are only supposed to wait 15/30 minutes for it to kick in before giving more if needed. 4,000 TO BE NEGLECTED IN THE. EMERGENCY. ROOM. If you are in pain and need immediate assistance don’t come here.
