UP Health System - Marquette

My friend went to the ER for an irregular heartbeat. They determined it wasn't a-fib but referred him to a cardiologist. He was supposed to get a call to schedule an appointment with the cardiologist. He called them twice. The first time they said his call would be returned in 24 hours, the second time they said it would be returned in 48 hours. A week has gone by and there has been no call. I always advocate for local health care, but if you can't even get them to return your call for something as important as a heart issue, what else can you do?

Fancy place. Go in main entrance, then down to registration, which is about a quarter mile away from the main entrance-really! Then back to the main entrance. Tell me how to this makes any sense, because it doesn't. Staff was promt and procedures quick. Just an unessarily long walk.

A very wonderful experience considering the circumstances, admitting nurse, intake nurse Stephanie, and Dr Sturla were all very polite, friendly, knowledgeable, even conversational, they really seemed to care, I was a person, not a number, thank you RN Stephanie, the young Dr, who helped me and got me back on the road somewhat quickly, diagnoses, treatment options, all considered. My second visit here, both good experiences. Thank you.

I went to the emergency room on Christmas Day because I had a lot of stressful things going on and the fact my mother is no longer with us during Christmas (our family’s favorite holiday besides Easter). I had a wonderful experience here. The doctor told me, “ Shelly you have a huge heart and you have to stop taking care of your family and your close ones; start focusing on yourself more.” It’s hard my mom raised me to take care of our family and my dear neighbor. I took care of my father after his open heart surgery on my birthday (the same day a local bartender called the cops on me for having two beers. I’m dealing with a lot of stress as this was my first offense and it’s still sitting in the courtroom and I’m nervous about my driving record- that’s the stress I’m handling right now besides missing my mom). It’s not easy trying to take care of your close ones all alone, it’s a lot of stress and that is why I walked into the e.r. This Christmas Day. I will go here whenever life gets tough as it’s challenging being a veteran in the civilian world... I knew I signed up for the Army right after high school, but I didn’t know the struggles I would encounter after going to war with the 107th EN. BN. Back in 07-08. I was here for 6 hours and they released me and I went to big boy and had a Christmas meal for myself and it was amazing as I wasn’t able to carry my moms family tradition and make her favorite dishes, as I had to finally focus on myself for once. Thank you to all the staff that work long hard hours here away from your families and for making my fathers surgery go the way it was supposed to go and for my healthcare experience here. If I could leave negative stars I would. I went multiple times with chest pains, shortness of breath and etc and each time was sent home from the emergency room told it was just anxiety and sent home with Ativan when in fact I had pneumonia. The doctors are rude with little none bed side manner and same goes for the nurses.
