Malama I Ke Ola Health Center

The pediatrics and OBGYN are great! We’ve only had positive experiences with both departments. They always give great education, are kind and take the time to listen to your concerns. They also gave out a kids book every appointment up to my kids 1st or 2nd birthday. The only thing I think the pediatric dept could improve on is postpartum screening for mental health. Their screening was asking, “you’re not depressed, are you?”. My one year old also had a positive experience with the pediadontist (kids dentist).nnHowever, I would not recommend the adult medicine department... I have never experienced such a long wait time with an appointment EVER and was pretty sure they forgot me in the room. The doctor also prescribed me a drug which I later found out I should not have been taking while breastfeeding. It’s my understanding that the department was extremely understaffed which is too bad, otherwise I’d say Malama I Ke Ola would be a great health center for the whole family.nnOverall it’s a great health center and they do their best to help families. They won’t turn away patients in need and will work with families with payments. They also have a sign up office with helpful workers if people need to sign up for Quest and a WIC office upstairs. They have health fairs with information and give aways (mini first aid kits, bags, granola bars, tooth brushes). And I’ve also seen they they have a tent with produce like a farmers market set up on occasion.

My appointment on wednesday 3/17 was unfortunately displaced due to a system error. Kawehi was super curtoues and helpful in assisting me when Dr. Needs department was closed thank you for rescheduling that for me. :)

Malama has helped me with various dental health issues over the years, and I am very grateful for them. I have had a few issues with work that was done there. The last was placing a permanent crown, after months of wearing a temporary crown due to Covid 19. A week after placing, the tooth behind it (a molar) starting hurting, and I couldn't put any pressure on that tooth, or chew on that side. I called Malama, and was told that I would have to come in as an emergency walk in (the only take 5), and hope to be seen. After 2 1/2 days of constant pain, (taking various pain medication didn't help), the pain and pressure issue subsided somewhat, but then the gum became inflamed and sore, and started bleeding. That lasted for another 2 1/2 days. I ended up making an appointment at another dental office. They believe that cement from the permanent crown was not cleaned out completely, and had embedded itself under the gum of the adjoining tooth. I ended up with an additional dental cost, and prescription cost for a rinse I now have to use.nnAfter a previous crown at Malama, I kept feeling something poking me in the back of my mouth, and after several days, managed to dislodge a really sharp piece of cement.nnMy suggestion is that they take extra time, irrigation, suction, etc., to make sure that all dental materials are removed after a procedure.

When I go to see my doctor at the health center they have a mandatory mask and temperature check at the door, barriers at the check in desk and marks on the floor for 6ft spacing and the waiting room also has 6ft seating spaces and someone is always disinfecting chairs and surfaces
