I work here and have been there for almost 5 years and I love my job and residents.... There’s like my family. They get treated like family if I’m around and they all have a special place in my ❤ufe0f

There are some wonderful people who work at Hatley Healthcare that truly care about the residents. As with most long term care facilities, staffing adequately to meet the many diverse needs of the residents is very challenging leaving front line workers to be responsible for too many residents. When staffing is “short” or inadequate, you will learn that management tells staff to “Just try to keep them dry and turned.” I put that in quotation marks because that’s what I was told by the DON and ADON when I worked there. What it meant was skip showers, bed baths, getting residents up out of bed, etc ; in other words -Do the best that you can. Very hard work but somehow we, the staff would get more than the “minimal” done because “we cared”! The best co-workers and team players I ever worked with in long term care were at Hatley Health Care. The administrative staff, however were difficult and caused many nurses undue stress. The DON and ADON were always looking for a fall guy or a way to blame others for nursing errors or mishaps. Never once did they ever realize that it was the two of them who were at the root of any problem. If the ADON told us something to do and it ended up causing problems- she would simply deny she ever said that to us. The politics of the facility is their REAL DOWNFALL there - which leads to the staffing shortages and loss of experienced nurses. But it is as if they thrive on it! Family owned and managed - they do things the way they want to and are happy to do so. The level of care is good but it’s the nurses and nursing assistants that make that happen despite upper management. The Administrator is young, smart and a real go getter whom I like very much. Once the DON and ADON retire, I believe things will improve with staffing. So there’s hope!

My sister in law was a resident there for 3 years, before that her dad was a resident for 6 years. I could not recommend any higher. The staff was always pleasant and took excellent care of them both. Betty Faye Minor, my sister in law passed this morning. Her only wish was to go back to Hatley's. She loved it there and wanted to see her friends, residents and staff were included. I hope Hatley's recognizes their wonderful staff. I would love to call each and everyone of you by name. The list is long and I'm afraid I would leave someone out. They know who they are. Thanks so much for your devoted care and honest love shown. Much respect to everyone and please realize you have not gone unnoticed. With kindest respect,nThank You
