Absolutely the worst treatment I’ve ever witnessed from self-proclaimed “medical professionals”. I brought my fiancé, who is 27 weeks pregnant, in because she was experiencing extreme pain in her lower abdomen and lower bacc early Tuesday morning and all they did was give her morphine and say their test results couldn’t show exactly what was wrong so they prescribed her pain medication and sent us on our way. We came in again later the same day and received the same treatment, the only difference was that they said they believed it was a kidney stone, after having an ultrasound done that same day to find out the gender of the baby in which they also inspected her kidneys. They stated that her left kidney was swollen and urine wasn’t passing through it and told us to schedule a urologists appointment in order to find out exactly what the issue was because a CT scan would be dangerous due to the pregnancy. We then went to speak with the urologist and asked to schedule an appointment and we were told they couldn’t schedule one due to not knowing whether or not it was really a kidney stone, meaning we couldn’t do anything about her pain but take pain medication. We came in the following day because my fiancé was thrashing around on the couch, screaming and crying, because it was hurting her so badly. I had to carry her to the car so she could be taken to the hospital because she couldn’t even walk. Upon arrival at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital, for the 3rd time, the nurses aide Melissa told my fiancé to, quote “Walk to the wheelchair” and repeated herself several times despite my fiancé being unable to stand on her own to begin with. I placed her in the wheelchair and the entire time we were walking through the ER this nurses aide made it a point to nitpicc every little thing she did as if we were somehow a nuisance to her. Once we were in a room the nurses aide kept telling my fiancé to speak, knowing that she was unable to vocalize because of how much pain she was in, and it took me roughly 10 minutes to finally get her to just let me answer for her. They then proceeded to give her morphine for the entirety of her stay within the hospital, and ended up giving her a CT scan anyways because it was a “last resort”. Why was this not done as a last resort on the very first day when it was clear that she was in extreme pain? If that was the only way to figure out the issue in an official sense so that she could be treated, it should have been done in the beginning, it shouldn’t have taken us 2 days of overwhelming pain within an ER to figure out the exact cause of her pain. They then had to transfer her to Winchester Medical Center’s L&D department in the North Tower, and she was treated well and they got to the root of the problem within a few hours. She has since had a procedure and the kidney stone was removed from her ureter, but that is only thanks to Winchesters Medical staff. Shenandoah Memorial Hospital would have simply continued to prescribe her pain meds as if that somehow solved everyone’s problems if they could have. If I could give this hospital a negative rating, I would.

Went into the ER back in April, for lower rib pain and spasming in my abdomen. They did an X-ray, found nothing, sent me home with muscle relaxers and anti-inflammatory drugs. Told me to come back if the pain kept on, diagnosed me with costochondritis. I came back two days later still with pain & just my head swimming from trying to take the pills.. they took my vitals and sent me straight home with pain still.... I finally got into my family doctor a month later and he ordered an ultrasound, the following week when it was preformed they found gallstones and figured out it was my gallbladder. I ended up going to the ER another three times, with severe pain and worsening spasms by the day. Just wanting it removed, they kept on giving me pain killers (oral and through IV) and sending me home, it got to the point where I luckily had gotten an appointment with my surgeon in June and he called WMC ER (Winchester Medical Center) & sent me straight there where they removed it the same day.

The staff was absolutely amazing. ER was full but they were both quick and patient with me. I have a mild hospital phobia and my nurse Jessie and Dr. Johnson, even tho they were crazy busy, were kind and compassionate with me every step of the way through repairing a bite that I had that needed stitches. Feeling very grateful to you both, thank you very much!

Professional capacity is next to zero, when asked to speak to a higher up, was placed on hold for 5 minutes, then when phone was picked up, heard a “just hang up on them” before a dial tone. Very immature for a being our front line of defense.
