Oscar’s Alehouse (West)

This is an update to my review of about a year ago. Rather than allow one bad experience to override the good, which includes a convenient location and good food, we decided to give Oscars another chance. We have been treated courteously on each visit and the food is still good. Actually, we've become regulars and will remain so unless we feel that the service declines in the future.nnMy wife and I have been to Oscar’s a number of times since it opened and for the most part the food was good, for pub food, and the service was pleasant and fairly efficient. So why only two stars? The crowded parking lot indicates that so far, Oscar’s has been well received and I believe that their success may have given at least some of the staff the idea that they can treat customers with disdain. Specifically, I called last Tuesday asking for a reservation for a party of seven at 6pm on Friday. The person who answered, Anna, said that they do not take reservations later than 5:30 on Friday, Saturday and I believe she also said Sunday. As 5:30 was actually the time my group had originally planned to meet, I told her that 5:30 would be fine. Her response was that she’d still have to check with her manager. After a couple of minutes on hold, she returned and said that her manager said it would be OK, but we all had to arrive at the same time. Then she had the nerve to ask if I understood. The implication being that if only six of us made it promptly and the seventh was somewhat delayed, they would do a headcount at the door and turn us away. Now whether or not they want to take reservations is clearly their decision to make; however, I will not allow any establishment that wants my business to treat me in a condescending manner. So even though Oscar’s location is very convenient for me, I will no longer patronize them, at least not until the crowd moves on to the next new pub in Frederick and they return to treating their customers as welcome guests.

I have not came in and had an experience I didn't enjoy. Tonight was especially pleasing. Quiet but still busy in the dining area, the waitress (Sierra) was a pleasure. I hit it on the tail of happy hour (ended at 7) and she got my appetizer and drink under the special. I ordered the Old bay Wings which are now officially in my top 5 for the frederick area, holding second for sure. I ordered the Orange Crush, which was well made however, Just can not come close to My favorite crush and Old bay wings spot, Avery's. The Cobb salad was the star. I opted for Salmon and balsamic and it was perfectly cooked and flavored. I highly recommend all 3 orders for this side of town.

This place is pretty cool, the crowd is a bit on the older side, but the environment is really fun and upbeat. When I went there was a bunch of shark week themed stuff in there, really fun. Great food and beer selection as well

The last two times we have ordered there were missing items. Yes, we get a refund but I really wish the employees would simply check what we ordered.nnGreat food when you get it!

Oscar's is one of those places where you always feel at home. The service is personable, professional, and attentive. The food is excellent, with different specials being cycled in frequently. The draft beer selection is superb! The bartenders know how to keep the lighting optimal; no one wants to be at a bar where it is blindingly bright.
